Elizabeth and Rodney had been on Earth dealing with some meetings with the IOA for the past week. Now that they were finished they had a few days left before returning to Atlantis.

It was with that in mind that Rodney decided he should visit his sister and her family. Elizabeth decided she’d come along at Rodney’s invitation. She hadn’t had much opportunity to talk with Rodney’s sister when she was on Atlantis.

Elizabeth walked into the Millers’ kitchen where Jeannie was washing dishes. The windows were opened as it was a pleasant spring evening and they could hear Maddie, Jeannie’s daughter, squealing with delight as she played with her uncle and dad outside.

With a glance out the window Elizabeth grinned at the put upon look on Rodney’s face as Maddie dragged her uncle across the backyard.

“That was a delicious dinner, Jeannie,” Elizabeth said.

“Thank you Dr. Weir.”

“Elizabeth,” she corrected.

Jeannie smiled.

“May I help?” Elizabeth asked.

“You’re a guest, Elizabeth.”

“I don’t mind,” Elizabeth put down her cup of coffee on the counter.

“I’m almost finished anyway.”

“I hope you don’t mind my tagging along with Rodney and coming here,” Elizabeth said.

“Not at all,” Jeannie said. “I am surprised. Mer can be,” she hesitated.

“Overbearing?” Elizabeth offered with a smile.

“Don’t get me wrong,” Jeannie put away the last of the dishes. “I love my brother, but...yeah, he can be overbearing at times. He’s been known to stick his foot in it a time or two as well,” the two women laughed.

“Yes, there have been times I’ve had to step in,” Elizabeth agreed. “I haven’t always been very good at protecting him from himself,” her tone turned more serious.

“I’ve never really had that skill,” Elizabeth looked at Jeannie confused having wandered off in thought. “Protecting him from himself,” Jeannie explained.

“He needed a big sister,” Jeannie said. “I think he found one,” she smiled at the other woman.

Elizabeth looked at Jeannie a little confused before she smiled as comprehension settled in. “I’ve always wanted a little brother.”
