Title: A Different Ending

Summary: An AU version of the series finale Unending where Vala and Daniel were together until Vala dies due to a miscarriage and eventually Daniel finds love again with Cameron

They started seeing more of Daniel as the days went by. One morning Cameron was doing his usual morning run when Daniel came running up to him. They didn’t say anything while they ran together.
After a while it became a regular thing for Daniel to join Cam in his morning run. After their run they would go to Cam’s quarters and collapse in various spots in the room. They would talk or sometimes just doze off for a while.
Daniel would later spend most of the day looking through the Assgard library. Cameron would come by some days with lunch and stay until it was time to join the others for dinner.
“I need to clean up my quarters,” Daniel said three weeks after Vala’s death. He was sprawled out on Cam’s couch after their morning run.
Cam propped himself up on his elbows from where he had been lying on his bed. “Want some help?”
“You don’t mind?” Daniel asked.
“I’m offering aren’t I?” Cam responded. “When do you want to start?”
Daniel shrugged. “After lunch?”
“All right then,” Cam nodded.

They stood at the entrance of Daniel’s quarters. The door was opened and the light was on allowing them to see the disaster. Cameron gave Daniel a nudge and they entered the room.
Cameron began by setting a chair back up. He saw Daniel pass by him out of the corner of his eye while he kneeled down to pick up some other things off the floor.
He looked up a minute later when he hadn’t heard anything from Daniel. His friend was hunched over kneeling on the floor. Cameron stood up and walked over kneeling down next to Daniel. He placed a hand on the other man’s back and felt it tense for a brief moment. “Hey,” Cam spoke softly and saw the picture Daniel was holding.
Daniel took a deep breath and removed his glasses before wiping his face with the back of his hand. He pushed himself up still holding the picture and found a book hanging half out of the bookshelf. He slipped the picture inside the book with a collection of other pictures they had collected over the last few years.
“She miscarried two years ago,” Daniel’s voice startled Cam.
“I didn’t know,” Cam said not sure what to say.
Daniel shrugged. “No one did.”
For the next half hour they continued to straighten things up. Daniel sat on his couch and Cam joined him. “Would you mind taking the crib somewhere?” Daniel seemed to grasping for the last word.
“Sure,” Cam said. “What do you want to do now?”
“Get out of here,” Daniel said.
Cam took Daniel to his quarters and they spent the rest of the afternoon there until dinner.
