A New Casting Call for SGU

As a paraplegic I'm offended by this.

This to me is just another example of TV telling me that a disabled person is of no use or has no ability to be intimate (and I'm not just talking about sex) unless there's some magical device that cures them (if only temporary) of their disability.

Agreeing with your anger. Sadly, this doesn't actually surprise me. When have this team ever put their brains in gear to be different or take risks or write sensitively? Never, really. (EDIT: like never having a homosexual or bisexual character is another example of this.) I think it's American TV really.

You would really enjoy a film called Inside I'm Dancing. It's an Irish indie movie, so probably quite hard to find, but it's amazing.

Unfortunately it's nothing new in TV. Too often I've seen shows use an able bodied actor to play a paralyzed character and then find ways of getting around it using some made up device to cure it. I hated what they ended up doing with Dark Angel's character Logan. He got this device to wear that basically had him looking as if he was no longer a paraplegic.

I read an article in a magazine about a year ago talking about a lot of actors who are quadriplegic or paraplegic and how difficult it is to find work.

I once watched a soap opera Port Charles. It was a spinoff of General Hospital. I watched it only because of an actor in it who is paraplegic. His character was a doctor and he had a romantic relationship with a woman.

I found the movie. I added it to my Netflix queue. :)

And yeah they'd never have a gay male character, but they're having a gay female character. Yes American TV is scared of gay or bi men. *shakes head at the US.*
