A/N: I don’t think Col. Reynolds has ever been given a first name so Dan is my creation. I know it’s just a shortening of Daniel but I think life we sometimes meet others with the same name as ours or more than one person with the same name
The following week proved to be a busy one at work for Cameron. For the first four nights he was late getting home. He ended up just having Joey walk Tracy home from the Reynolds’ when he got off school.
There was very little interaction with the kids for him and Cameron was getting a short temper directing it at the very people he wanted to spend time with.
It was Thursday night and Cam made it home a half an hour past Tracy’s bedtime. At least it was suppose to be past her bedtime. Walking up the stairs he heard feet running around above his head. From experience he could tell it was two sets of foot steps.
“Tracy!” Cam heard Joey yelling and then more running. “You’re supposed to be in bed now.”
A bark startled Cam and he realized Sam was up there too.
“I don’t wanna,” Tracy whined. “Cam’s not home and you can’t make me.”
“Oh yes I can,” Joey said before Cam heard Tracy scream.
Cam double timed it up the stairs in time to see Joey carrying Tracy towards her room holding her like a sack of potatoes.
“What’s going on here?” Cameron demanded.
Joey stopped still holding Tracy under his arm, her arms and legs flailing.
“Tracy won’t go to bed.”
“Joey’s being mean.”
“Enough!” Cam barked.
Joey placed Tracy back down on the floor both standing still.
“Joey, have you taken care of the dog and done your homework?” Cameron’s voice still had an edge to it.
“Yes sir,” Joey said.
“Tracy, have you brushed your teeth?” Cam asked.
“Yes sir,” she said looking down at the floor.
“All right then,” Cam continued. “I won’t you both to go to bed.”
Joey opened his mouth to protest but shut it when he saw the look on Cameron’s face.
Cameron turned to go back downstairs when he knew the kids were going to bed. He locked up and shut off any lights left on before heading back up to bed himself.

The next morning the kids were subdued as they gathered in the kitchen to eat breakfast. Cameron sat down next to Tracy coaxing her into his lap. Wrapping his arms around her he kissed the top of her head. “I’m sorry I yelled last night. It’s been a long week but that’s no excuse,” wrapped an arm around Joey’s shoulders ruffling the teen’s hair. “You need a haircut,” he told Joey getting a face from the boy.
“Has Daniel sent us a letter yet?” Tracy asked.
“Not yet, honey,” Cam said. “Maybe we’ll get something today,” he hoped so at least. Today was supposed to be the SGC’s weekly check-in to Atlantis.

Cameron walked into the control room. It was about ten minutes before their check-in to Atlantis. “Hey Sam, what’s up?” He saw his teammate working diligently at a computer.
“We’re doing a complete systems check of the gate,” she said. “It’s going to be offline for a few hours.”
“What?” He glared at Sam. “We’re supposed to be checking in with Atlantis in less than ten minutes.”
“Sorry,” she grimaced. “It can’t be helped. We were having some problems with the gate earlier today which is what precipitated this systems check.”
“Great,” Cam grumbled walking out of the control room. He did not look forward to going home with no messages from Daniel for the kids or for himself either.

For once this week Cam was getting out of work at a reasonable hour. Unfortunately he didn’t think to call Joey to tell him he didn’t need to walk his little sister home from the Reynolds’.
An unnecessary side trip later he was home. He stepped into the living room and released a sigh. Toys were strewn all over the place.
“I’m home,” he yelled. No answer came.
Cameron walked up the stairs picking up toys as he went along. Coming to Joey’s door it was shut and Cam could hear loud music emanating from the room. He knocked but got no answer. Shaking his head he opened the door. He grimaced at the mess in Joey’s bedroom. Clothes, books and CD’s were all over the place.
Cam looked over at the bed where Joey was sitting. The teen was reading a comic book. “Hey, Joey,” he yelled over the noise. “Wanna turn that down.”
Joey noticed Cam finally and turned down his stereo. “Hi,” he waved his hand at Cam.
“Where’s your sister?” Cam asked.
“Her room sulking,” Joey said.
“Sulking?” Cam raised an eyebrow at that.
Joey shrugged. “I didn’t want to play with her.”
“Did you walk the dog?” Cam asked.
Joey’s mouth turned into an ‘o’. “Um I forgot.”
“Great,” Cam muttered. “How about your homework?”
“It’s almost done,” Joey said getting up.
“Where are you going?” Cam asked.
“Walk the dog,” Joey said.
“No,” Cam said. “Finish your homework, I’ll walk the dog and take Tracy with me.”
Joey just shrugged and bounced back down on the bed. He picked up his comic book.
“Eh,” Cam looked at Joey. “No comic books until you finish your homework.”
Joey gave Cam a sour look throwing the comic book down beside him. “Fine,” he got up and retrieved his school bag.
Cam nodded and left the room to find Tracy. She was in her bedroom playing with her dolls looking very unhappy. “Hey kiddo, wanna come with me while I walk the dog?”
“Cam,” Tracy ran up to him wrapping her arms around his legs. “Joey wouldn’t play with me,” she frowned.
“I know honey,” he said. “He’s just being a teenager. Come on, let’s get Sam.”
“Okay,” Tracy said following Cam out.

By the weekend Cam was beginning to wonder if Joey’s attitude really was just him being a teenager. The kid wasn’t talking much. Sunday morning he had to practically drag him out of his bed so they could go to church.
Cam stood next to the stairs smiling at Tracy who was twirling around in her favorite Sunday dress. He checked his watch. It was getting late. “Joey, come on!”
It was another few minutes before Joey finally came downstairs.
“You still need a haircut,” Cam said to Joey.
Joey just made a face at Cameron before they walked out the front door. The final week before Daniel’s return was going to be a long one. Cameron was sure of that.
