Title: Getting To Know You Again

Spoilers: Sunday but things go AU after that. Irresponsible never happened. In fact neither did Irresistible. Set sometime after s3.
Summary: After Rodney suffers at the hands of an old enemy he and Evan must deal with the fallout

A/N: This is mainly for sazzat. Her con pics and talk of Lorne/Kavan Smith inspired me. ;) Oh and if someone's willing or knows of one, I'd love a Lorne/McKay icon.
Chapter 1
Evan Lorne stood on the catwalk over looking the Stargate. His hands were resting on the railing willing the gate to activate. He had wanted to go on this mission, but was told in no uncertain terms he was not going.
He had a lot of respect for his commanding officer, but right now he was pissed at Colonel Sheppard.
“If you grip that railing any tighter you might break something.”
Evan was startled out of his thoughts by the voice of Dr. Weir. “Ma’am,” he straightened up letting the railing go.
“Look Evan, I realize you wanted to go on this mission and John was…” her words were cut off at the activation of the gate.
They looked at Chuck who nodded. “It’s Colonel Sheppard’s IDC, Ma’am. He’s requesting a medical team.”
“Lower the shield,” she said. “Dr. Keller, we have a medical emergency in the jumper bay.”
The jumper came through and rose up to be deposited in the jumper bay. Lorne looked at Elizabeth who nodded. With that he turned and ran to the jumper bay.
Evan entered the bay just after Keller’s team. He tried to look into the jumper, but bodies were obscuring his view.
“Evan, let the medical team do their work,” Elizabeth’s voice startled him again.
The medical team came out of the jumper with a gurney. Evan swallowed when he saw who was on it. Rodney was covered in bruises and cuts. There was blood on his shoulder making Evan fight back a gasp.
Rodney’s team came out with the gurney, but Lorne wasn’t seeing anything beyond the man on the gurney.
It wasn’t until they got to the infirmary that Evan noticed Sheppard was standing next to him. He watched as the doctors took Rodney away and turned to his commanding officer. “What happened, sir?”
John wiped a hand over his face sitting down with everyone else. “Kolya had him,” Sheppard’s teeth gritted. “Bastard won’t die. Kolya wanted something from Rodney and he wasn’t above using torture for it.”
“What did Kolya want?” Elizabeth asked. Her hand was resting in John’s.
“The gene.” John shifted. “Not to mention Rodney’s brain. Kolya had something that needed the gene to work it and he needed McKay to fix it.”
“Where’s Kolya now?” Rage was building up inside Evan. He’d strangle the bastard if he got his hands on Kolya.
Evan noticed the grimace on Sheppard’s face. “You let him go,” Evan was standing now staring at his commanding officer.
“Major, sit down,” John commanded.
“You let that son of a bitch torture Rodney again and you still didn’t get him,” Evan was stepping closer to Sheppard who was now standing up.
“Major, we’re all on edge here. I’m letting this go this time, but I will not tolerate anymore of this insubordination,” they were staring each other in the eye now.
Evan deflated. His shoulders sagged just a little and he stepped back. “My apologies, Sir.”
Sheppard nodded and Keller stepped in. “He’s stable. Bruises and lacerations were minimal. He had a gunshot wound to the shoulder, but we were able to take care of that with minimal difficulty. The worst was a skull fracture. We’ll know if he suffered any damage when he wakes up.”
“When will he wake up?” Elizabeth asked.
“He should be waking up any time.”
“Would it be all right for us to see him?” Teyla asked.
“For a few minutes,” Keller said.

Evan was sitting next to Rodney’s bed. The others had left a few minutes earlier. They had been reluctant to leave, and Evan had appreciated their consideration. After all, they had known Rodney longer. Well, except Ronon, but Rodney was a member of his team.
He and Rodney had been together for six months now. They had been thinking about moving in together. There were a lot of couples in Atlantis now. Sheppard and Weir were one of them.
Reaching out, he rested his hand over Rodney’s. He began to lean back in his chair when he felt a twitch from the hand in his. He leaned forward looking at his lover and saw Rodney’s eyes begin to flutter.
“Rodney,” he stood up and watched as Rodney’s eyes came open.
Rodney blinked a few times and then frowned. “Who…?” Rodney paused. “Oh, Major Lorne, right?”
Evan froze. He opened his mouth to speak, but nothing could come out.
“What are you doing here?” Rodney asked.
Evan made another attempt to speak. “I’ll get the doctor,” with his heart pounding and his stomach churning, Evan went to track down Dr. Keller.

Can't wait to see your icons. As I was putting this up I thought it could really use a Lorne/McKay icon.
I was watching Runner recently and the Lorne/McKay interaction in that episode just had me pretty much flailing that it got my muses going. :D

This is great! =D I feel kinda bad to be so happy because the ending was so angsty. Poor Evan! Poor Rodney! Oooo this has so fed my need for angst :)
