John Sheppard is a big meanie head. :p

It seems to me there are a lot of people in fandom who don't understand men and their relationships with each other.

John Sheppard and Rodney Mckay is one example. John is a big meanie head according to many people. :p OKay, so I made up the meanie head part.

Spoilers for SG: Atlantis s2 and sg-1 Pegasus Project 10.3

I can't help but respond with "it's a guy thing". John smacked Rodney upside the head in Instinct as well as smacking him on the leg in Inferno. For some it's like "OMG, John's abusing woobie Rodney!"

John's the "punch you in the arm to show I love you" kind of guy. Okay, so Rodney's not experienced with this kind of relationship. But I just feel like he kind of gets it.

Yes I think there have been times John's been rather snappish like in the first two eps. of s3. Then again I think he was under a lot of pressure and I can give him a pass for that. The stress always seems to go up at the end of the season or beginning as it is a continuation of the previous ending. Tempers flare. People get more caustic. It happens.

In SG-1's 10.3 Pegasus Project John gave Mitchell a lemon telling him about Rodney's allergy and saying he pulls out the lemon when Rodney needs a little push. To me this is something John can do because he and Rodney are friends. Personally I don't think he should have told Mitchell because it's not nice to let a stranger do that to your friend. That said, I sometimes think fans want to burn a character at the stake for these less than stellar moments.

Personally I think Mitchell was following Sam's lead in regards to dealing with Mckay because I don't think Sam's all that interested in trying to get to know Mckay.

I don't think as some have posited that tptb are trying desparately to get fans to not see the Sheppard, Mckay relationship in a slashy way. There will be fans who see slash no matter what. Or ship for that matter. They're writing two guys who are friends.

The comments are largely coming from the Sheppard, Mckay friendship thread strangely enough. One of them posts on that thread and the Mckay/Sheppard slash thread. So I've seen slashers not happy with the way John's treating Rodney.

I'm thinking well tptb are writing two heterosexual men who are friends. Not two men who are sexually attracted to each other. They're different relationships. Although while I prefer the friendship I could see the slash side a little.

I've seen the comment from fans thinking tptb are trying to get rid of the slash ideas for the Daniel/Jack fans too. Things like "they're put so far from each other in every scene." "They never sit next to each other" or "They never stand next to each other." "Sam's always standing between them." I'm just waiting for "Weir's always standing between John and Rodney"

You know the more I am around guys who are friends, the more I realize that they pound on each other and make fun of each other. For girls that would cuase fights and crying....but guys think this is the normal and proper way to be with each other.

As for the whole "lemon thing", I actually thought it was a dumb part of the show. I loved that eps, but that part just made me roll my eyes. :)

Yeah, I kind of thought the lemon thing was a bit lame too. I thought it was particularly ridiculous when Mitchell pulled it out and showed it to Rodney. So Rodney things Mitchell would actually slip him some lemon? Rollseyes.

I rolled my eyes right along with you. I know it was suppose to be a gage-piece, but it was just dumb for me. It actually would have been better if Mitchell had said something like "Don't make me squeeze a lemon into your water.". That I would have probably chuckled at...but the other was no good.
