Title: Family Ties

Summary: A tragedy in Cam's family

Cam, Daniel and Vala came through the Stargate and into Stargate Command. It had been a rather uneventful mission. Daniel was the only one who had found it the least bit interesting.
They came down the ramp meeting General Landry. “Anything interesting?”
“Jackson found a few things interesting, Sir,” Cam offered.
“All right, we can discuss it in the morning,” Landry said dismissing them to go to the infirmary.
On their way Harriman stopped Mitchell and handed him a message. The colonel pocketed the message and continued with the rest of his team.
When he was finished in the infirmary Cam pulled out the message as he headed to his office.

Daniel looked around for Cam when he was done in the infirmary, but couldn’t find him. He asked around and was told he’d been seen heading for his office. Daniel turned in the direction of Cam’s office. He knocked on the closed door, but didn’t receive a response. He decided to go ahead in.
Looking in Daniel didn’t see Cam immediately. He had to look around to find him. A chill ran down his spine when he spotted Cam sitting on the floor, his knees bent to his chest and his head down.
“Cam,” Daniel closed the door and kneeled in front of his lover. “What’s wrong?”
Cam’s head came up and Daniel swallowed hard seeing tears spilling down Cam’s cheeks. “Kelly and Jeff,” he choked out. “Oh God,” he covered his face with one hand. A sob broke through.
“What happened?” Daniel wrapped his hand around Cameron’s.
“There was a fire,” he said. “Kelly’s in the burn unit. They don’t think she’s going to live. Jeff’s dead.”
“What about the kids?” Daniel asked.
“They made it out,” Cam said. “Kelly got them out,” he stared down at the floor as tears slid down his cheeks.
Daniel squeezed Cam’s hand before standing up and walking to Cam’s desk.
“What are you doing?” Cam asked watching Daniel pick up the phone.
“I’m calling Sam to let her know we won’t be having dinner with her and Jack. Then I’m going to talk to Landry and get us some time off. After that I’ll get us the first flight to Kansas,” Daniel began to dial. “Hey Sam.”
When Daniel was finished talking with Sam, Cameron had gotten off the floor. He wiped his face with his hands. “I’ll talk to Landry. You can drop me off at the airport.”
“Whoa,” Daniel felt like he just got knocked over. “I’m going with you.”
“You have work you have to finish,” Cam said.
“It’s not that important,” Daniel walked over to Cam wrapping his arms around the other man. He could feel Cam become limp in his arms. It took all his strength to keep Cam up right.
Cam buried his face in Daniel’s shoulder. Daniel could feel dampness seep through his shirt.

They had both spoken to Landry several minutes later. He gave them both the time they asked for. Daniel then took Cameron back to his lab where he could sit his lover down on the couch while he got the airplane tickets and then went to tell Vala what was going on.
“Jack offered to take us to the airport,” Daniel said when he returned from speaking with Vala. He sat down next to Cam pressing a kiss to the other man’s cheek. “That’s from Sam,” he leaned over and kissed Cam’s other cheek. “That’s from Vala.”
The corners of Cam’s mouth turned up a little. “When do we go?”
“We should get going to the apartment. Jack’ll pick us up in a little over an hour.”
Cam nodded and pushed to stand up and stumbled a little. Daniel grabbed his arm supporting him. He let go when they got to the door and he was sure Cam was steady.

I understand, a little, of what Cam is feeling. You wrote his emotions so well.
Glad to see Danny jumped right in to take care of Cam. I was happy to see Jack helping out, too.

I had forgotten that Cam had mentioned he had a brother in one episode so I invented the cousin for the series. :D
