Fandom and Ship

I've noticed something in several different fandoms I have read fanfic for. If there is a ship there's a tendency for non-shippers or anti-shippers to perceive the ship as one sided. And it is always seen as coming from the side of the female character in the ship pair.

I was reading a Magnificent 7 fanfic today and the character of Mary was said to have been pursuing the character Chris. Mary is often portrayed as this desparate and pining woman trying to get her claws into Chris. There are other fandoms with this, but M7 tends to irritate me the most.

I've never read JAG fanfic. Never cared for the show enough to be interested. I'd go back and forth watching it and quit before the last couple seasons.

I don't know anything about Gundam Wing other than hearing of the title.

I used to read X-Files fanfic in its early years and not much at that.

Presently I can think of M7, sg-1 and Atlantis (although there've only been hints in some of Atlantis fanfic I've seen). Actually it's not in het fic I find this occurrs. It seems to happen in slash fic.

Usually the female character turns into this uber bitch or desparate to get the guy.
