Am I the only one who used to see Jack O'Neill as someone with more to him than just funny one liners and appreciated him for being more than funny one liners?
I've just watched seasons one and two and have started season three... there was more to Jack than 'funny'. As an Air Force officer, he was a very believable character. But then I think the writers got complacent and RDA got bored (can't say I blame him) and it shows. A lot.
ITA. Lately every time I see something said about the next SG-1 movie someone is commenting how they can't wait see Jack in it because of his humor. Me, I think if he's as "funny" as he was in s7-8 in this movie I'm not interested.
Yups. It's like he became a parody of himself. And from what I've seen, same thing happened to Vala.
I was reading a BSG review this morning and something in there made me realise the exact problem with Jack: there's a difference between a wise-crack and being funny.
I think for me with Vala I just accepted it and rolled with it because I didn't have as much emotionally invested in her as I did with Jack. She at least I thought brought a little life into the show when most of the cast seemed to be just wandering through their scenes for the last two seasons.
A few years ago a thread on GW was started for talking about Jack. I participated once only to find people only wanted to talk about his humor. That's part of what led to this entry in the first place.
There is many many aspects to Jack than just his humor. I always thought he used the "humor" to detract from his serious side, just so he can take ppl by surprise. Use it to his advantage, you know?
