I've been catching up on the Sanctuary podcasts for the first seven episodes recently. The most recent one was Pavor Nocturnus. Near the end of it Damian Kindler made a comment that had me shaking my head. He basically said he added the detail of Will and Kate getting together and having a child to make the viewers like Kate more. Basically saying if Will got together with her she must be a great person and we should all love her. *facepalm*

No Damian, that's not how you get your audience to like a character. It's you know showing the character. You cannot take a shortcut to get us to like her. She has to be liked on her own merits not because another character said so.

The only thing it managed to do was make me worried they're going to ship Kate and Will together in the near future.

I know. I can actually believe that he'd do that for that reason but I can't believe that he'd admit it. I was sitting there listening to him say that thinking 'you're actually admitting that?' Of course it wasn't even an admition more of a matter-of-fact statement like he has no idea the implications of that. Which again doesn't really surprise either. After all he was once one of the writer/producers of the Stargate shows. I'm just glad AT has a major influence on this show.

I guess everyone was thinking that was the reason but you're right, admitting it?! Quite unfortunate to word it politely...

Aaw, Damien seems cool imo. I took it as a simple This Is Why but not in a Hallowed Are TPTB kinda way. :)

I just feel that getting me to like a character by having some other character like her is an easy out. I would rather see the character as herself for myself than have someone else tell me she's awesome.

But to be fair they have been doing better at showing us her since this episode.

I understand his POV... but it didn't work for me, just made me pull a twitchy face, lol (tho I have started liking Kate more since it was shown she's not Bad Girl Gone Good, and even tho she's her own team, she's not out to actively hurt anyone).

I have started to warm to her as well inspite of this as well. I was pretty put off at the time I watched the episode when Will said he and Kate got together though.

No she's not a bad person, but at first as a character I didn't feel there was much going on there.

Haha, yeah. I didn't like her AT ALL when she was first introduced and that line was just like hail NO! Tho there hasn't been any solid stories for her yet, she's become a more rounded character imo.

Still has nothing on Magnus, Druit, or Tesla tho. ;)

And speaking of Tesla he's suppose to be in ep. 9 or 10. Don't know which exactly but I can't wait. :D
