Question About Castle
I have a question from last night's Castle episode. There was a thunderstorm last night so the local news cut in during the commercial break and went over into the scene that returned from the commercial break so I missed a minute or so of the scene. ( Minor spoilers for last night's episode )

I have what is probably an odd question. What is this obsession with penguins in the Stargate fandom? I've seen it from all quarters of the fandom for fans of both shows and of various ships. It's just something I've seen occasionally.
The West Wing a question
I noticed a cable channel is airing a bunch of s7 episodes of the West Wing today. I quit watching the show around s5 so I don't know all that's going on, but I was reading about the very last episode of the show and I have a question I'll put under a cut in case there's anyone on my flist who has started the show late and isn't up to s7 yet. Question about DVRs
I don't have a DVR and I've never used one so I know nothing about them. My question is do they record onto DVDs or is there a device that does? I know there are devices that take a VHS tape and records the contents of the tape onto a DVD, but I didn't know if there was a device that records from the TV directly onto a DVD like a VCR onto VHS tapes.
I was wondering if there was any point in replacing my old VCR with something else when I record things for my mom and a friend of hers. Or if I should just get another VCR.
