I have never been as grossed out by a fandom as I am with The Musketeers. The way many of them are talking about the female characters is disgusting.
sg_lab2: (NealMozzie)
It's a little depressing when you feel like the only one who likes a certain character.
sg_lab2: (Default)
It's interesting how there are people who blame the characters of plot holes or something convoluted in a show as if the characters are autonomis beings and others will blame the writers of the show.
sg_lab2: (P/E/N)
I guess it was inevitable, but to be honest it amuses me this time around.

Introduce a female character as a regular character and love interest for one of the lead male characters and the fandom go boom.

It's like a train wreck and I can't stop looking.

It's really sad that I get anxious when I see the female lead listed as a main character in a fic. It's even more sad that when I look at the warning in the fic that it says the female character is written as a nasty person when that is not true of the character in canon.

I have what is probably an odd question. What is this obsession with penguins in the Stargate fandom? I've seen it from all quarters of the fandom for fans of both shows and of various ships. It's just something I've seen occasionally.

Sometimes fandom makes me feel like I'm back in High School.

So there I was complaining about GW yesterday and today I'm posting there three or four times. I realized instead of complaining I need to be a positive influence on things. Instead of complaining at the people on GW I need to simply post what I want to talk about. Give my view on things the way I'd like to see from others. Sometimes it's just not easy because I just don't know what to say that's positive that will bring things back to where the thread should be(at least where it should be in my mind).
sg_lab2: (Default)
Well, this is weird. I made a post on my LJ, but it disappeared and re-appeared after posting this one. I deleted the previous one anyway. I was saying I need to cut way back on GW now. I really don't want to run into a comment that was accidentally not put ino spoiler tags. And I really don't like posts that say things like "That episode sucked...spoilers under the cut." Or "That was a waste of my time...spoilers under the cut."

On a happier note, I watched Eureka last night. "God is in the Details". Eureka )

ETA: Does anyone know of any good Daniel/Janet fic that isn't secondary to Jack/Sam ship?

Somebody needs to smack me if I ever even think of reading Sheppard/Mckay fic again. :(

OMG, I saw this comment about Mullie and Mallozzie and I had a sudden image of them with those thin mustaches twirling the ends like evil villains. :p

*Sigh* My latest chapter is driving me crazy. I don't know what to do with Jeannie and the POV is all over the place.

I got a better night's sleep last night. The previous night Toby planted himself on my bed and wouldn't leave. I went to bed with him still there. He walked around and on me for awhile before settling down behind my legs. At about four in the morning he woke me up walking around on top of me and plopping himself down on me only to get several times to walk all over me and tried to bite me a couple of times.

BTW, I'm sick of the word Sparky. *runs from shippers*

Never before have I come across so many links to spoilers for the same thing and not felt the slightest temptation to click on them.

I'm bored. Everywhere I go on the net it's either HP or s4 of SGA.

The only archive I go to for Due South fic is a pain in the ass. The search function works pretty well, but the fic writers don't do a very good job of putting pertinent information in. S1,2 had Ray Vecchio. S3 had Ray Kawalsky. Some fic writers put in Ray in their summary as if I'm suppose to know which Ray they're talking about. For some fans it seems there was only one Ray.

In a way I feel like there was only one Ray on DS, but if I had written a fic and put it on the archive I would be sure to indicate which Ray was in my fic. For one thing if people wanted to find Ray Vecchio only (like me) they'd know my fic was the one to read. And if they didn't want to read fic with Ray Vecchio they'd know my fic was not the one to read.

FriendSHIP

Friendship seems to be very underrated in fandoms. It's mostly about ship or slash.

ZOMG!

When the hell did it become a hanging offense to hate a fictional character?

Fandom

Sigh. I'm just not cut out for fandom.
sg_lab2: (Default)
I think one of the reasons I've started writing Sheppard/Mckay slash is because it's the only way I'll get Elizabeth portrayed the way I see her.

For all the whining and complaining about her on GW, I find it infinitly more tiresome the way Elizabeth gets depicted in fanfic.

Rumors

So the rumor is rumor )

Oh well, I've run out of steam on this subject. I'm tired of all the extreme fans. But I guess they wouldn't be called fans if they weren't extreme so saying extreme fans is rather redundant. And I need to get back to my Weir/Lorne fic. Moments in Time.

Stargate

Maybe I'm just not made for fandom. People complain about lack of Consequences or fall out for characters. There are those who say character x should be tossed out.

All I can think is this is Stargate. Since the beginning of Stargate SG-1 characters have gotten away with many different things with no more than a slap on the wrist. They create some big conflict between characters and then drop it by the next episode. We're lucky if it ever gets a mention again. And character x will always make decisions based on the needs of the plot. It wouldn't matter if they replaced him with someone else.

Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis are not Babylon 5 or Firefly.

I guess I'm just not one for over thinking these shows. I watch them for the adventurous fun.

It seems the anti (insert character of choice here) threads are growing on GW.

First there was the anti-weir thread a few days ago and the weir fans immediately descended upon it. Personally if people want to complain about a character they don't like I say go for it. As long as they don't go into threads to complain about her that are for pro sentiments only.

Today it was the anti-Sheppard thread. Although this one doesn't have people who out right hate the character and simply want him gone. It's Sheppard fans unhappy with how he's been written in s2. Personally calling it the anti-Sheppard thread is rather harsh since it's not exactly anti-Sheppard completely.

Now we have the anti-Mckay and Weir thread. I guess someone wasn't looking when creating this one. I don't see this thread going anywhere; people love Mckay.

I'm finding all rather amusing. The anti-Weir thread is most amusing because people are treating her like a real person. As if they replace her they'll get someone better. It's like they don't realize there are other people writing this character and it wouldn't matter if they got rid of the character. We would still have the same writers.

The Stargate writers write their characters to suit the plot for a given ep. They don't let the characters tell the story the way J Michael Strazynski did when he wrote Babylon 5 eps.
