As the days and months passed the vibrancy in Daniel began to return. By Christmas he was the most relaxed and happy they had seen him in a long time. Still the loss would hit him occasionally at unguarded moments.
Cameron was lying on his bed throwing a Nerf ball up in the air and catching it when his door buzzed. “Come on in,” he hollered.
Cam lifted his head to see who it was. He was hit by the look on Daniel’s face as he stood in the doorway. Cameron got up off the bed and crossed the room. He rested a hand on Daniel’s shoulder and tugged. To his surprise Daniel leaned forward and Cam had to put up his arms to catch Daniel. He wrapped his arms around Daniel holding him close. He felt Daniel’s arms wrap around him bunching his hands in the back of Cam’s shirt.
When Cam had first seen Daniel in the doorway he thought the archeologist looked lost.
Soon Daniel was pulling away. Cam saw Daniel’s cheeks turn a slight shade of pink. “Daniel,” he said.
“I tried going back to my quarters,” Daniel began. “I usually only go back there when I’m exhausted.”
“You want to just hang out here then?” Cam asked.
“I don’t want to bother you,” Daniel took a step back.
“You’re not,” Cam held onto Daniel’s arm giving it a tug. “I wasn’t doing anything. In fact I was thinking of looking for you and the others.”
“I have a feeling Sam and Teal’c are occupied,” a little smile appeared on Daniel’s face.
“Oh?” Cam grinned.
“Yeah, I spotted Teal’c entering Sam’s quarters just before I went to mine,” Daniel said following Cam through the room. He tried and failed to hold back a yawn.
“Tired?” Cam asked.
Daniel shrugged. “Not to the point of exhaustion.”
“Well, take my bed then,” Cam said.
“No, I couldn’t do that,” Daniel said.
“Yes you could,” Cam insisted. “I’m not that tired and you could use some sleep obviously.”
Daniel didn’t look convinced but he sat on the bed leaning against the pillows at the head of the bed. Cameron sat on the couch and they talked until Daniel nodded off. Cameron took Daniel’s glasses off and pulled the blanket up over him before going to the couch to get some sleep.

After awhile Cam got tired of Daniel pushing his “doorbell” whenever he came by so Cam told him to just come on in anytime he wanted to. Cameron was tossing around his Nerf ball bouncing it against the wall when Daniel wandered in. He walked into Cam’s path and got hit in the head by the ball. “Ow,” was Daniel’s placid remark.
The ball, having bounced off the side of Daniel’s head returned to Cam’s hands. “Baby,” Cam remarked.
Daniel eyed him and shook his head. “So, I was wondering if you wanted to watch a movie.”
“We’ve seen them all,” Cameron said.
“Yeah, well this Assgard library is getting old,” Daniel said.
“Really?” Cam looked at him surprised.
Daniel shrugged. “I need a break.”
“All right then, you can pick,” Cam said pulling out his laptop and setting it on the foot of the bed.
Daniel handed him a movie and sat down next to him. They settled back against the pillows as the movie began. Cameron had to blink a few times halfway through the movie feeling a little tired. His body shifted to the side until he was sagging against Daniel.
He didn’t know how much time had passed when his eyes snapped open. Cam assessed his situation without moving too much. His head was on a shoulder. Well, things could get very embarrassing here. He looked at the computer and noticed the movie was over. That meant he had been out for at least twenty minutes.
Cameron carefully lifted his head and looked at Daniel. He exhaled when he realized his friend was asleep. Daniel’s glasses were resting on his leg and he was leaning back against the pillows. Cameron placed the glasses on the side table. He then took the movie out of the computer and turned it off.
Taking another look at Daniel, Cam got up and pulled the blanket up over the other man. He sighed and took over the couch.
