A single lamp lit a small portion of the room. Pictures taken over a period of nearly five decades sat on the bookshelf, a desk and the nightstands on either side of the bed.
Among those pictures most prominent were of a man and a woman wrapped in each others arms smiling. A smiling woman leaning against a man whose arm was wrapped around her, his smile serene. A team and their commanding officer together came next. Finally, two grinning men side by side, their shoulders pressed together.
Cameron shifted to his back. Finding a comfortable position these days was a difficult task. He held the picture of himself and Daniel.
He smiled at the memory of the day that picture had been taken. Daniel had just finished moving his things into Cam’s quarters when Sam and Teal’c had wandered in.
“Sam,” Daniel eyed his friend. She had a smile of mischief on her face.
She grinned even more if that were even possible before pulling her hand from behind her back revealing a camera. “I want to take a picture of the two of you,” she said.
“Hey,” Cam jumped up off the side of the bed where he had been sitting. “That’s a great idea.”
Daniel just made a face.
“Aww, come on Daniel,” Sam cajoled.
Daniel looked to Teal’c for help. Nope, no help there; Daniel just got that half smirking, half serene smile. He rolled his eyes. “Fine,” he threw up his hands.
“Where do you want us?” Cameron asked.
“Just sit next to each other on the side of the bed,” she said.
Once there she frowned at them. “Put your arm around each other,” she directed.
Daniel shook his head. Cam shrugged his shoulders at her. Finally she gave up trying to direct them and just took a picture of them smiling with their shoulders pressed against each other.
“Hey,” Daniel’s sleepy voice pulled Cam back into the present.
“Hey,” Cam said back putting the picture back on the nightstand.
“Thinking about tomorrow?” Daniel asked.
“Among other things,” Cam said looking at the long grey hair Daniel had. “All these memories will be gone if this works.”
Sam had figured out a way alter the events that had brought them to this fifty years earlier. By morning they would implement the procedure.
“I wish I could say we’ll be together if this works,” Daniel said.
“We wouldn’t be together if Vala hadn’t…” Cam couldn’t finish the sentence.
“Hey,” Daniel took his lover’s hand in his. “What happened to Vala wasn’t your fault and you shouldn’t feel guilty for being with me the last forty years.”
Cam sighed running a warn hand over his face. He sat up and pushed himself out of the bed with great effort.
“Where are you going?” Daniel asked.
“Just going down memory lane,” Cam said pointing to the pictures on the shelf. He smiled at some of the pictures. Sam had gotten a little camera happy after taking a picture of Daniel and Cam. No one was safe from her, not even the general. Cam sighed again. It had been twenty years since the general had passed away.
Cam felt a pair of arms wrap around him from behind. He breathed in Daniel’s scent and let out a slight laugh.
“What?” Daniel asked; his lips inches from Cam’s ear.
“Just getting a little sentimental in my old age,” he said.
“Cam, I hate to break it to you, but you’ve always been sentimental,” Daniel kissed Cam’s cheek.
Cam laughed and took Daniel’s hand leading him to the couch where they sat together waiting for morning.

The team entered the gateroom listening to Vala attempt to get something out of Teal’c. The Jaffa was the only one who remembered all that had happened in that alternate timeline spanning fifty years.
Cameron was wondering himself. He had a feeling there were some painful memories there. There was an indefinable sadness he thought he had caught in Teal’c’s eyes a few times since returning from the Odyssey.
Cam walked up the gate with Daniel next to him. He heard Vala flirting with Daniel on the other side of the archeologist. He smiled to himself; if something didn’t happen between those two soon Cameron thought he just might ask Daniel out on a date himself. He heard Sam and Teal’c chatting behind them just before they walked into the gate.
