Daniel and Cameron got out of the car and looked at the house in front of them.
“What do you think?” Cameron came over next to Daniel.
“I don’t know,” Daniel said.
“When is Susan supposed to get here?” Cam asked of their realtor.
“She should be here any time,” Daniel said.
A few minutes later a car pulled in and a blond woman came out of the driver’s side. She pulled out a large bag putting it over her shoulder and then reached back in pulling out a silver clip board and pen.
She pushed the car door shut the car door with arm and walked up to the steps where Daniel and Cam sat waiting. “Sorry guys,” she said. “The couple I was showing the last house to was taking forever.”
“No problem, Susan,” Daniel assured her. “We’ve got all day.”
The house was the third one they had seen in the last two weeks. The two men were getting antsy about finding a house. They had promised Joey and Tracy they would come back to Kansas to get them in a month.
“It has four bedrooms,” Susan said as they entered the house. “It’s been well taken care of so I don’t think you’ll have much work to do.”
For the first time in two weeks Cam felt like maybe they had found something. He looked over at Daniel who was looking around with great attention. The feeling grew. He could tell when something caught Daniel’s interest.
They then went upstairs. “Here are two of the smaller bedrooms,” she pointed on their left. “The master bedroom and the other bedroom are on this side. It has a nice sized bathroom in between.”
They looked at each of the rooms ending in the master bedroom. “Nice size room,” Cam remarked. There was also a full bathroom attached to the master bedroom.
“So, who would get this room?” Susan asked.
The two men turned to look at Susan and saw a smile playing across her lips. “Well,” Cam started. “I guess we would have to flip for it.”
“Of course,” Susan smiled. “You know, if you moved in here, you would only be living a couple of blocks away from my family and me. I have a daughter about Tracy’s age.”
“What do you know about the schools around here?” Daniel asked.
“I’ve heard good things about the Middle school. I have some friends whose kids are Joey’s age,” she told them.
“Susan, would you mind giving us a few minutes alone?” Cam asked.
“Sure,” she said leaving them standing in the middle of the master bedroom.
“So, what do you think?” Cam asked once they were sure she was out of earshot.
“Well, it’s the best one we’ve seen,” Daniel said. “And we really need to find something soon.”
“Could we have a little more enthusiasm here?” Cam asked.
“Sorry,” Daniel looked at him embarrassed. “I guess I’ve just been living my life as if the rug’s going to be yanked out from under me at any moment.”
“Daniel, are you sure you want to do this?” Cam asked.
“What?” Daniel looked confused for a second. “Of course I do. I want those kids to have a home where there will be people there who love them,” he wrapped his arms around Cam’s waist pulling him close. “And I want to be one of those people,” he kissed Cameron long and slow.
When their lips separated Cam rested his chin on Daniel’s shoulder. “Promise no wanderlust?”
Daniel looked at Cam still holding him. “Maybe just a little, but I promise to come back.”
“Okay,” Cam accepted that. “I love you, you know.”
Daniel smiled. “I love you too.”
“So, are we going to take this house?” Cam asked.
“Yes,” Daniel smiled.
