A/N: I don’t think Col. Reynolds has ever been given a first name so Dan is my creation. I know it’s just a shortening of Daniel but I think life we sometimes meet others with the same name as ours or more than one person with the same name
Daniel smacked at the alarm clock on his side of the bed and gave it a bleary eyed stare.
“I’m pretty sure you’re not going to be able to turn it into a pile of ashes by staring at it.”
Daniel startled at Cameron’s voice. He turned over to see Cam standing outside their bathroom. There was a brief awkward silence that followed before they spoke at once.
“I’m sorry, I should have…”
“I’m sorry I acted like…”
They stopped and shook their heads smiling. Cam sat down on the edge of the bed. “I shouldn’t have told you what you could or couldn’t do.”
“I’m sorry I didn’t tell you again,” Daniel said. “The week was busy and the schedule wasn’t getting set. I wasn’t sure even if it was going to happen. I’ll just tell them I can’t go this time.”
“No, you should go,” Cam said.
“I’ve made a commitment here,” Daniel moved his hands to indicate the immediate area.
“You’re right though,” Cam said. “You’ve sacrificed a lot of your career.”
“Yeah well I sacrificed my career the day I publically stated I thought the pyramids were landing pads for alien ships,” Daniel leaned back against the head board.
“That’s not exactly what you said,” Cam argued.
Daniel just shrugged. “Doesn’t matter.”
“Daniel, I know a little acknowledgement from the archeological community would be nice, but I also know you love your job just for the gaining knowledge,” Cam said and leaned in pressing a kiss to Daniel’s lips. “We’ll figure it out. You’ll regret it if you don’t go.”
“I’ll have plenty of other times to go,” Daniel said.
“Are we going to have another fight?” Cam smirked.
“I don’t think we have time,” Daniel smiled. “Are you sure?”
“Yes,” Cam said. “Now we have two kids to get up and get them ready to go.”
“I’ve got to take a shower,” Daniel said.
Cameron got up off the bed heading for the door only to stop and turn back. “You’re going to have to tell the kids,” he smirked at his lover before walking out the door.
Daniel slumped back against his pillow and groaned.

The team had a nice long weekend starting with Friday. Daniel decided to bite the bullet and tell the kids about his trip that day.
“How long will you be gone?” Joey asked.
“Three weeks,” Daniel said. He had Tracy in his lap and Joey sat across from him on the couch. Cameron sat next to Joey.
“You guys aren’t breaking up are you?” Joey blurted out.
Daniel felt Tracy squirm in his arms before he saw her face. She looked ready to break out in tears.
“No, we’re not breaking up,” Cameron cut in firmly. “We had a disagreement a few days ago, but that’s all settled,” he looked at Daniel.
“He’s right,” Daniel nodded at Cameron. “Couples argue sometimes. Friends argue. Even brothers and sisters argue,” he tickled Tracy causing her to giggle.
Daniel stood up carrying Tracy over to the couch and sitting on Joey’s other side. Joey slumped back into the couch. “Mom and Dad never argued,” the teenager said.
Tracy squirmed out of Daniel’s lap and climbed into Joey’s lap.
“Oh I’m pretty sure they argued,” Cam said. “They were just really good at keeping it from you. But they loved each other,” he wrapped his arm around Joey’s shoulders pulling him into a hug. “And they loved you two very much.”
“Any other questions?” Daniel asked eventually.
“Where are you going?” Tracy asked.
“South America,” Daniel had come up with that today.
“Can we go with you?” Tracy asked.
“Sorry squirt, you’ve got kindergarten starting on Monday,” Cameron tweaked her nose.
“How about we have some dinner,” Daniel said.

It was Sunday night. The kids were in bed asleep. Daniel was draped over Cameron resting his head on his lover’s bare chest. He nuzzled at the chest hair under his cheek as Cameron brushed a hand through his hair. They were naked and sweaty having just made love.
“Do me a favor while you’re there,” Cam said.
Daniel moved his head resting his chin on Cam’s chest and looking up at him. “Yeah?”
“Don’t fall in love with any flyboys there. I seem to remember there are a couple of really hot ones in that city,” Cam said.
Daniel grinned and slid up Cam’s body. He pressed a kiss to the other man’s lips. “I don’t fall for just any flyboy.”
Cam smiled and rolled Daniel over on to his back kissing him back.

Daniel was the first up the next morning which was unusual for him. He wouldn’t be leaving until the after noon, but he wanted to spend as much time with the kids before they had to go off to school as he could.
Tracy got them up early and Daniel helped her pick out something to wear. It was a good thing she got up as early as she did because it took her awhile to decide what she wanted to wear.
They met Cameron and Joey in the kitchen an hour later. Cameron was just finishing making breakfast.
A half an hour later the kids were getting their bags and jackets. Joey walked over to Daniel and hugged him.
“Love you, you know,” Daniel said hugging the boy back.
“Will you write?” Joey asked.
Daniel grimaced inwardly. The SGC would probably be checking in once a week and Daniel could probably send a data burst containing messages occasionally. “I’ll do my best but I’ll be very busy. Besides, before you know it, I’ll be back.”
Cameron dragged Joey out to the front of the house to take the first day of school picture. Sam came out with them running around the front yard.
After the picture was taken and another goodbye said Joey left to walk to school.
Cameron took Sam back in the house making sure he had enough food and water until Joey came home to walk him. Joey had to walk the dog once in the morning, one when he came home from school and Cameron or Daniel would walk him one more time before going to bed.
Cameron then took a picture of Tracy outside before he and Daniel would be taking her to kindergarten together.
“Now remember Mrs. Reynolds will be picking you up after kindergarten and you’ll spend the afternoon at her house until I pick you up after work,” Cam reminded her.
Daniel gave her an extra hug and kiss before letting her go. They were worried about her starting at a new place, but she was still excited going. They were just glad Joey was starting his second year in high school so he wasn’t just going into a new school.
They drove halfway to the mountain and stopped. Cam leaned over and kissed Daniel long and lingering. “I love you.”
Daniel pulled Cam into a hug. “I love you too.”
They pulled apart and Cam started up the car again driving the rest of the way to the mountain.

They changed their clothes when they got to the SGC meeting up with the rest of their team next.
Sam and Jack’s kids were starting pre-school and they were feeling just as nervous about the new place for their kids as Cam and Daniel were.
“So how did it go?” Cam asked when they were all gathered in Sam’s lab.
“Chrissie was excited but Emily was more nervous. Jack stuck around for awhile to make sure Emily would be all right,” Sam said. “How about Tracy?”
“Excited as Chrissie,” Cam said.
“She dragged us out of bed at the crack of dawn,” Daniel said.
“It was not the crack of dawn,” Cam rolled his eyes.
“Are you still planning on going to Atlantis today Daniel Jackson?” Teal’c asked.
“Yes,” Daniel nodded. “I’ll be going in a couple of hours.”
Sunday Daniel had gone out to lunch with Jack and Teal’c and expressed lingering doubts about going on the trip. Still Cameron had made up his mind that he was all right with Daniel’s trip and wasn’t letting him out of it now.
“Daniel, you wouldn’t mind if I tagged along would you?” Vala asked sweetly.
“Not a chance,” Cam said. “That city’s already got at least two flyboys I gotta worry about, I’m not letting you alone with him,” it was said mostly in jest.
Daniel bumped his shoulder with Cam’s shaking his head in amusement.

They were gathered at the bottom of the ramp to the gate. Daniel said his goodbyes. He and Cameron had had a more private goodbye twenty minutes earlier in Cameron’s office. He waved one more time at them before heading up the gate and stepping through.
They started to depart as the gate shut down. Cam stood lingering for a moment before Sam said his name. “It’ll be fine,” she assured him walking out of the gateroom with him. He just nodded his head. Being separated from his lover by a few planets within the same galaxy was bad enough, being separated by an entire galaxy was miserable.
