Anna kept busy with her classes while waiting to hear something from Marc. She was sitting at a table in the cafeteria on her day off from classes working on her math homework. She tossed her pencil down on the table. Nothing was making any sense. Usually she would take her math homework to her father when she was having a problem but he was offworld his team.
“Anna, are you all right?”
Anna looked up at Dr. Zelenka who stood on the other side of her table looking down at her concerned.
“Hi Dr. Zelenka,” she said. “Math seems to be my problem. I don’t seem to have my father’s aptitude to it.”
“May I help?” The scientist sat down looking at her work. “Hhmm,” he gave a long sounding response.
“That bad?” She grimaced.
“No, no,” he shook his head. “Is not so bad,” he smiled and for the next few minutes he helped her see where she went wrong.
“Thank you Dr. Zelenka,” she said.
“I am always happy to help,” he began to stand up.
“Dr. Zelenka,” Anna said. “Have you and Col Lorne heard from Marc?”
“Not as much as his father and I would like,” he smiled. “We have only had one email from him since we returned. He tells us he is very busy. Have you received anything from him?”
“Just one email too,” Anna said. “It was pretty much the same thing.”
“Do not worry,” Dr. Zelenka said. “I am sure life will settle down some for him in time and he will be sending you more emails than you know what to do with.”
“Thank you Dr. Z,” Anna put her supplies in her bag hanging off the back of her chair. “I should be getting home.”
Radek said goodnight before Anna turned and left the cafeteria.

It was the beginning of November and Anna was resting on the couch after seeing Carson for an infection. He wanted her to stay home for a few days. She had her laptop opened and clicked on her email. A broad smile surfaced after several days of feeling miserable from a combination of her infection and not hearing anything from her boyfriend.
She clicked on the new email and began to read. Within a few minutes her smile disappeared and for the briefest of moments she considered tossing her computer across the room. Taking a breath she realized that would probably not be a good idea, it would only get her into trouble with several people and she was already miserable anyway. No point in adding to it.
The door chime went off at that moment and she yelled for whoever it was to come in. Neither of her parents were home and she didn’t feel like having to crawl into her chair to answer the door.
The door opened revealing Rodney Jr. “Hey,” he said stepping inside. “How’re you feeling?”
“Like crap,” Anna fell back into the pillow that was supporting her.
“Should I call Uncle Carson?” Rodney asked.
“No,” she said. “Marc’s not going to be here for my birthday.”
“Oh, sorry,” Rodney Jr. sat down next to Anna’s feet.
“What are you doing here?” She asked.
“I came to see you,” he said. “I could leave if you want.”
“No,” she said. “Isn’t our class on a field trip off world though?” Part of her felt the infection was convenient to her parents as it kept her stuck in the city. She knew her parents didn’t want her going on the offworld trip with her class, they just weren’t willing to admit it.
Rodney Jr. shrugged sitting on the couch at Anna’s feet. “Wasn’t interested.”
“I need to do something,” Anna handed her laptop over to Rodney and pulled herself into her wheelchair.
“Aren’t you supposed to be resting?” Rodney said.
“My parents overreact,” Anna said. “Come on,” she waved her arm towards the door.
“Where are we going?” Rodney set Anna’s computer down on the coffee table and followed Anna.
“To the Jumpers,” she said.
“Why? We can’t take one anywhere, we have to get permission and I doubt your parents would give it to us with your infection,” Rodney huffed trying to keep up with Anna as she glided down the hall. “Slow down, Sheppard!”
Anna grabbed her wheels coming to a sudden stop and waited for Rodney to catch up. “I don’t plan on going anywhere,” she said when Rodney finally caught up to her. “I just want to sit in it for awhile.”
“Fine,” Rodney followed her.
They entered the Jumper bay and Anna went to one of the Jumpers opening the back hatch and wheeling in. She rolled her chair to the front until she was next to the pilot’s seat. She scooted over onto the seat.
“Mind if I move your chair?” Rodney asked.
“Sure,” she said wrapping her hands around the controls.
“Anna,” Rodney warned.
“I’m not doing anything,” she said.
“Uh huh,” Rodney sat down in the co-pilot’s seat after pulling Anna wheelchair back. “What’s going on, Anna?” Rodney asked.
“Nothing’s going on,” Anna denied.
“Right.”
Anna shifted in her seat to face her friend. “I’m just sick of being coddled. I’m sick of being sick or some damn medical procedure I have to go through that no one else has to,” Anna leaned against the seat quiet for a moment. “I just want my tonsils removed.”
“You what?” Rodney practically screeched. “Are you insane?”
“I don’t really want my tonsils removed, Junior,” Anna huffed. “I just want something normal to happen to me.”
Rodney opened his mouth to say something but didn’t know what to say. He wasn’t any good at this, he was his father’s son. “I wish I knew what to tell you,” he finally said.
Anna leaned over placing her hand on his. “It’s okay,” she said. “I doubt there’s much anyone can say that’ll help.”
The sounds of a door opening could be heard outside the Jumper they sat in. Rodney got up and opened the back hatch. “Our class is back from their trip,” he yelled back to Anna.
“Great,” Anna said under her breath. Her dad and Rodney’s dad had taken their classmates offworld.
“Bring me back my chair,” she said to Rodney.
Rodney pushed her chair back next to her and Anna shifted back in. Once settled Anna took a deep breath and pulled out of the front of the Jumper and out to meet her father whom she knew would still be out there wondering why there was an open Jumper.
“Hi,” she gave her dad her brightest smile.
He raised an eyebrow at Anna with little effect. “Trying to steal one of my Jumpers?”
“Sheppard, you coming?” Anna heard Uncle Rodney’s voice from behind the Jumper they had just used. “Oh,” the elder Rodney approached them frowning. “What’s going on?”
“We were just hanging out here,” Anna said looking at her father.
“Okay,” her dad said.
“Okay?” Anna looked confused. “That’s it? No ‘Annabeth Sheppard, you should be resting’?”
“Yes, Anna,” her dad said. “So, McKay, are we still all having dinner together tonight?”
“Jennifer should be off duty in about an hour,” McKay said.
Anna looked over at her best friend for help as their fathers walked off together. They could hear a few jibes at each other start as they reached the doors to exit the Jumper bay. “Guys,” Anna’s dad turned back to look at the teens. “Dinner’s at six.”
“What just happened here?” Anna asked as she watched her dad and Uncle Rodney exit the Jumper bay.
“I think that was you being treated normal,” Rodney Jr. said. “Hands.”
Anna was still surprised she lifted her hands from the wheels of her chair and let her friend push her out of the Jumper bay.
