I want to thank my flist for your comments on my last post about my cat Zoey (hugs). She's doing a lot better. She started eating on her own a couple of days ago and she seems to be feeling a lot better in general.
I found myself watching MTV’s Teen Wolf for the last week and a half binging on episodes from the first two seasons. I happened upon a fan video on youtube one day and was curious. Suddenly I found myself unable to stop watching.
I like most all the characters. Maybe there are some I like a bit more than others but they’re all pretty interesting. Some of the characters on the surface seem to be your typical high school stereotype but the further you go you find there is so much more to these characters. And some characters that so often are stereotypes in a high school setting but are completely turning the stereotype on its ear.
Jackson and Lydia seem in particular to hold up to their stereotypes but in time it has become obvious they have a lot more going underneath the popularity and the ‘mean girl’ presentation. And they have both grown and had interesting things happen to them. I do have to say I was surprised still at the end of season two to realize there was something deeper to their relationship than the typical shallow boyfriend-girlfriend relationship.
Stiles is hilarious and Dylan O’Brien has great physical comedy skills. But can really do those dramatic moments so well. He’s very protective of those he loves and can really surprise with what he’s willing to do to protect those loved ones. The moments with Stiles and Derek are always entertaining with their snarky banter.
Derek is the brooding character. And when you think about it he’s still so young, though I don’t know his exact age. He’s been through some terrible things and I think he’s really alone. He’s desperate to create a new pack which led to turning some kids into werewolves who frankly had no clue what they were getting themselves into. And while Derek did tell them everything, I think he should have realized these kids weren’t ready for this.
Scott is the teen wolf. He’s going through something so far out of his depths. He was turned against his will by Derek’s uncle Peter. Derek has tried to help him but Derek is driven by his emotions (mostly anger) and may not always have the best answers. Stiles is Scott’s best friends but he’s also highly intelligent and tends to think analytically a lot and does so much research he has been able to help Scott controlling the wolf.
Allison is an Argent and part of a family of werewolf hunters unbeknown to her at first. She’s also Scott’s girlfriend. After finding out it leads to her aunt’s eventual death and later her mother committing suicide after being turned into a werewolf. Of course her father and particularly grandfather are still keeping things from her. This has led to her reacting out of anger and going after Derek and his pack with a vengeance. Given what she’s been through recently and what she knows or doesn’t know; I can’t blame her for reacting this way.
Allison’s grandfather Gerard really went off the deep end. At first I could be somewhat sympathetic to his feelings since he had just lost his daughter. But then the end of season two culminated in worse and worse behavior until it turned out he wanted to be turned into a werewolf because he had cancer. And to accomplish this he admitted to his son he would go as far as sacrificing his son to get what he wanted.
Chris, Allison’s father thankfully kept to their code and became less and less able to follow his father. He saw what this was doing to daughter and he had had enough.
Allison and Scott’s relationship is one I neither love nor hate. They kind of have the weakest personalities. Though what they are going through is interesting. And I like that Allison has been shown to kick ass in own right. Anyway I don’t really ship anybody. And I don’t know if I could really pick a favorite character. Possibly Stiles.
Oh and I have to mention Peter, Derek’s uncle, he is actually pretty funny when he’s not going all psychotic. I was cracking up in the scene in the season two finale when Peter and Derek were looking at the computer and found a picture that was apparently pretty scary. I laughed at Peter’s reaction when he decided maybe it would be better if they had an animated view and what he said and how he said it as he slammed the top of the computer down to shut it was hilarious. I’m interested to see what’s going to happen to him in the next season.
And there are my ramblings on the first two seasons of Teen Wolf. I’m sure there’s more that I forgot but that’s all for now. I really shouldn’t have watched it all so fast, now I have a long wait for the next season.
