It had been three months since John had run into Elizabeth. Every time he and his team were offworld he would wonder if he would find her again.

So far there hadn’t been much to find. Every once in awhile they would find a planet with evidence of past Assuran presence.

He hadn’t told his team about finding Elizabeth, but he had told Col. Carter. He had become more withdrawn and snappish of late and he could tell his teammates were concerned.

He didn’t know what to tell them not wanting to get their hopes up. They had suffered too many losses lately.

“I’m getting something over here,” Rodney called to his team. They were on another planet not much different from most other planets they had been on. There hadn’t been any signs of life, but Rodney had noticed some odd energy readings.

“What is it?” John asked.

“I don’t know,” Rodney’s voice was distracted as he examined his equipment.

“What do you mean you don’t know?” John’s voice was showing his frustration.

“Don’t you understand English anymore?” Rodney snapped.

“McKay,” John growled.

“Rodney, is it anything you’ve seen before?” Teyla’s calm voice cut in.

Rodney’s head snapped up looking at the others. “It’s Assuran, but it’s somehow different.”

“In what way is it different?” Teyla asked after John had raised his hands in a sign of surrender and then waved to her to take over.

“There’s an extra component, but I don’t know what it is,” Rodney said.

“Take your time, Rodney,” Teyla said.

John opened his mouth to say something, but the single glare from Teyla shut him up. He looked to his side where Ronon stood grinning. Ronon continued to smirk at John when the colonel pouted.

The trees and foliage rustling drew their attention and they all drew their weapons at once. The crunching of leaves and branches could be heard and someone stepped out into the clearing.

“Hello,” Elizabeth stood with her hands together in front of her looking to each of the people in front of her.

“Elizabeth?” John heard Teyla’s voice as he stood frozen in his spot.

He watched somewhat detached as Teyla approached Elizabeth with her arms opened wide. The two women embraced for a long moment.

He saw Ronon walk over and speak to Elizabeth.

He noticed Rodney hadn’t moved from his spot and then he watched Elizabeth walk over to Rodney. She didn’t say anything to him, but hugged him and placed a quick kiss to his cheek. Rodney began to babble something. John thought it was an apology when Elizabeth shushed him.

John finally locked eyes with Elizabeth. She turned and walked up to him until she was just a couple feet from him.

“I’m guessing you’re wondering what is going on,” she said and looked at the group. “A small group of Assurans and I left Oberoth several months ago. They appointed me their leader and we are now just setting up our base of operation.”

“Where is it?” John found his voice at last.

“Right here,” she waved her hand behind her and a structure appeared within the clearing. It resembled one of the Atlantis towers only a bit smaller.

“How’d you do that?” Rodney asked gaping at the tower.

“Come on,” she gestured toward the tower. “I’ll show you around and introduce you.”

After a brief tour they ended up in a room with couches and chairs. She asked them to sit. They took in their surroundings and sat down.

“So, do I know the person they replaced me with?” Elizabeth asked.

They all looked down for a moment.

“Come on,” she encouraged.

“Colonel Carter,” John said.

Elizabeth’s lips pressed into a thin line and her head dipped for a moment. “I see they militarized the expedition,” John tried to say something, but she interrupted him. “I guess it was just a matter of time. Probably for the best.”

No one knew what to say.

Elizabeth straightened up. “I want to negotiate an alliance between us.”

“Us?” John asked.

“Between the Assurans and Earth,” Elizabeth said.

“Which side do you fall under?” John asked.

Elizabeth looked John straight in the eye seeing the challenge in his. “I’m on the side that will bring peace to this galaxy as well as the Milky Way.”

“Dr. Weir,” a man entered the room. “Might I have a word with you in private?”

“Of course, Cerran,” she looked at her friends. “Can you stay for awhile?”

“We can go?” John asked.

“We are not holding you prisoner,” Elizabeth said.

“I just need to report back,” John said.

“I’m glad. I’ll have someone show you to your quarters,” she then left the room with the Assuran.

“Are we really going to negotiate an alliance?” Rodney asked.

“We should see what she has to say,” John said.

“Why don’t we just take Elizabeth back with us?” Rodney asked.

“Obligations,” was all John said before someone came in to show them their quarters.

&

They were each given their own quarters. John had spoken with Carter letting her know everything. She had her questions, but she was willing to give him some leeway for the next twenty-four hours.

John lay awake in the bed he was assigned. His mind wouldn’t shut down. Questions of his own kept swirling in and out. Some of those questions were of a much more personal nature than that of Carter’s.

His door chimed and he sat up. It chimed again and he got up walking to the door. When the door opened he stepped back.

“Can I come in?” Elizabeth asked.

John shrugged and let her in.

“I thought we should talk,” Elizabeth said.

“What do you want to talk about?” He stepped up to her invading her personal space.

She looked at him taking a step back, but found herself hitting the wall.

John continued forward until he was pressed up against her. His arms came up under hers and he pushed her up enough so they were eye level. His mouth landed on hers. His tongue invaded her mouth.

Elizabeth’s legs came up and wrapped around his waist. Her arms wrapped around his neck. She gasped when he let go of her mouth and went for her throat.

He scraped his teeth over the sensitive flesh over her pulse point. His hips jerked forward pressing against her. With his arms wrapped around her middle he carried her to the bed.

They took each other’s clothes off. John covered her with his body. Holding himself with his elbows on either side of her he trailed kisses down until he came to one nipple. Flicking his tongue over her nipple he then gave it a light bite.

Elizabeth bucked up against him. “John.” Her own hands were trying to touch whatever she could of him.

His hands wandered down her body and a single finger teased her opening between her legs. Pushing a finger inside, her hips jerked up and she shouted with her release.

He came back up over her and pushed inside her. His hips jerked and he pulled out only to push back in. Elizabeth was just coming down from such a high only to be brought back up.

They were breathing hard. Sweat dripped down their bodies. He pushed in one more time taking them both over the edge.

“How’s everything at home?” Elizabeth asked when they were curled together under a single sheet, sweat drying over their bodies.

“We’ve lost some people,” he said.

Elizabeth’s head jerked around looking at him. “Who?”

“Heightmeyer,” he said.

Elizabeth’s eyes closed and her head bowed down. She took a deep breath and looked back at him. “Anyone else?”

“A few other scientists and some of my men.”

“I’m sorry.”

“Not your fault,” he said.

They were silent for a long time.

“What are you looking for, Elizabeth?” John sat up.

“Some way to make this galaxy a lot safer,” she said.

“Is this how it’s going to be with our relationship? A quick fuck whenever we happen to run into each other?” He got up and pulled on his pants pacing the room.

“I can’t promise anything right now,” she said from the bed. “I’m trying to get the Assurans back on the right track. This group of Assurans I’m with needs the others. Oberoth needs them, but he’s too stubborn to see it.”

“What do you need, Elizabeth?” He sat on the edge of the bed.

“That doesn’t matter right now,” she said averting his eyes.

“Do you want to know what we need? What my team needs? What the rest of the expedition needs? What I need?” She looked at him finally. “You. We need you, Elizabeth.”

She shook her head and got up pulling on her clothes. “What I’m doing now, I’m doing for you. For all of you. Do you think I can have a meeting soon? If we’re going to have an alliance we need to set something up.”

John stood up and sighed. “I’ll talk to Carter when we get back. She’ll talk with the IOA.”

“Sounds good. I should let you get some sleep.”

“Yeah,” he said as she walked out of the room.

&

The next day the team was preparing to leave. John was trying to avoid Elizabeth as much as he could. Teyla had her attention for the time being.

“So we just gonna leave her?” Ronon asked from his right.

“For now,” John said. “She thinks she can do more if she stays.”

“Are we still thinking of an alliance with them?” Rodney asked.

John shrugged. “I’m gonna talk to Carter about it. Elizabeth is determined it happen. She’s trying to get Oberoth and the rest of the Assurans on the same side too.”

“What?” Rodney looked at him with wide eyes.

“Are you sure about this?” They heard Teyla say as she and Elizabeth walked up to them. They each had an arm around the other.

“I know this is hard for you to understand,” Elizabeth said. “But I really feel this is the best place for me now. Please don’t leave angry.”

Teyla gave her a sad smile before giving the other woman a hug. “I will miss you, but know that I hold no anger.”

When they parted Elizabeth caught Rodney’s eyes with her own. She moved up to him giving him a brief hug. “Try not to drive your teammates too crazy.”

They all grinned at his pout.

She turned to Ronon and put a hand on his forearm. “Take care of them,” he looked her in the eye and nodded.

“So I guess we’ll be in touch,” John said.

Elizabeth nodded. “I look forward to hearing from you.”

John took one last glance at her before walking through the gate with the rest of his team leaving Elizabeth standing alone in the clearing.

“Dr. Weir, there’s some new intel for you to look at.”

Elizabeth looked back at the man a few feet behind her and nodded. “I’ll be right there, Cerran,” she took one more glance at the gate before heading back to the tower.
