It was 9pm and I turned to ABC to watch Men In Trees. There was a basketball game still on, but it looked like it was almost over. So I kept it on the channel and then it went into over time. Next thing I knew it went into double over time.
Finally it was over at 9:35. Five minutes of commercials later the show starts. Only after a few minutes I realize it's not the beginning of the show. In fact, it's the last twenty minutes. I missed the first forty minutes of the episode. :(
It's about a New York police detective who is immortal. He became immortal in the 18th century after saving an indian woman.
He apparently has to find his soulmate to become mortal again. In the first episode he gets a new partner. A woman. He had a heartattack somehow and the doctor (a woman) who tried to save him is who he thinks may be his soulmate. The heartattack killed him and then he came back alive in the morgue.
There will probably be sexual tension between him and his partner. Frankly I wish his new partner was a guy. I want a Starsky and Hutch or a Due South. I'm tired of shows with a male and female as leads and there is sexual tension between them. I'm tired of ship. I want friendship. I want a buddy show.

Well, if they did that. it'll be Ho-Yay central.

Date: 2008-03-06 10:32 pm (UTC)I don't watch Supernatural, but I've come across some of that type of fic and...eww. I won't apologize for finding incest fic disgusting. That's a big reason I stay away from Numb3rs fandom. It's a show with two brothers among the cast of characters.
At the moment Boston Legal is the best show to see a really good friendship between two men.
There are ships I like, but usually when I write fic with the pairing it's more incidental with the friendships of all the characters being the focus.
Well, I wish you would join the SPN fandom and knock some sense..
Date: 2008-03-07 02:33 am (UTC)BL does have a lovely friendship between Denny and Alan. I love those last scenes on the balcony where they muse over the episode and it's many plot points.
I'm going to offer up a possible unpopular opinion, but I think it's harder to write friendships/gen fic then 'ship' fic. I honestly feel that reading a good 'team' fic or gen fic is more satisfying that a truly well-done ship fic because it's so much more difficult (or so it seems) to keep the story on a clear and non-romantic leaning. I will now wait for the sky to fall on me.
If you ever feel like going cowboy on the SPN fandom, give me a call, I'd be honored to be your Tonto.

Date: 2008-03-07 03:24 am (UTC)I find picking out gen fic to read is difficult. Everyone has their favorite characters as well as their perceptions of the relationships (even in terms of friendship) and I might feel they slighted a character in some way if they don't write them with the kind of friendship I see.
Weir is a prime example. I see her as a friend to the other characters, others may see her as just their boss. That makes a Sheppard and McKay focused fic even more difficult to find for me. At least with a Sheppard/Weir fic I know what I'm getting.
I tried to watch SPN, but unfortunately I had some issues with it.
BTW, what does your icon say? It flashes by so fast I can't read it clearly.

Date: 2008-03-06 10:40 pm (UTC)The 4400 was a great show because of its two leads. A male and female who were partners and great friends, but never a hint of something romantic between them. She had a couple relationships and he had a couple relationships all separate from each other. It was great.
Right now Boston Legal is the best series for showing a good friendship between two men. It has more characters and other types of relationships as well.
I think the problem with New Amsterdam is that it has such a small cast that the ust is going to be so much in my face.
