John managed to make it to his room. He collapsed onto his bed. Thoughts of the last week continued to flash into his head.
A week earlier they had gone to a planet that was in the middle of a war between two villages. For the most part it was quiet for a war, but hostilities would come up every now and then. It was when Sheppard and his team met the Morlins that the Crener objected.
Sheppard and his team were run out of the Morlin village by the Crener, but a few of the Crener were much more hostile and wouldn’t let them just leave.
They had been shot at with surprisingly powerful guns. John first witnessed Teyla being shot. He got to her in time to hear her last words. “Tell Halling he has done well as leader in my stead. Thank you John and all your…” she died and John raised a hand to close her eyes.
John looked up and saw Ronon hit square in the chest. There was no way to get to him without being shot himself. John closed his eyes for a second and then opened to search for his last teammate.
Oh God, Rodney was practically out in the open. John made a run for it. Reaching his friend he grabbed Rodney by the waist and hauled him backwards. All of a sudden Rodney slumped back into John’s arms. When he got them behind some cover John took a look at his friend. Swearing he realized Rodney had been hit. But he was alive and John breathed.
“Hang in there buddy,” he said to the scientist.
“Hurts,” Rodney managed to see.
“I know,” John soothed.
“Ronon and Teyla?” Rodney forced the words out.
“Rodney, I need you to calm down.”
“Tell me,” Rodney’s voice was breathless. John closed his eyes and shook his head. “Oh god.”
Things seemed to quiet down at last several minutes later. John did his best to make Rodney comfortable, but the position of the bullet scared John.
After an hour Lorne and his team showed up when Sheppard and his team had missed their check in. Lorne found his CO looking very shocky as he held onto an unconscious and bleeding Rodney.
For the next week Rodney had been in a coma on life support. He woke up once for a few minutes less than a day ago.
“Rodney?” A very tired John stood up next to the bed when he saw Rodney open his eyes.
“Home,” Rodney whispered.
“Yeah,” John squeezed his friend’s wrist. “You’re home.”
Rodney fell asleep a few minutes later. John followed soon after in his chair. A few hours later Rodney suffered a blood clot.
John got up from his bed and paced the length of his room. He stopped after several rounds and looked around his room. He was standing next to his desk. He was staring at everything collected on the surface and something surged through him. In a single blow, he shoved everything off his desk.
Falling to his knees on his bed he began to pummel his pillow. When that wasn’t enough, he got up and proceeded to throw whatever he could find across the room.
Several minutes later he collapsed back to his bed. Out of sheer exhaustion he fell asleep.

Carson was walking Elizabeth back to her quarters when they came upon John’s quarters. Elizabeth stopped and looked at the door. Carson had to take a step back.
“We’ll just have to keep an eye on him,” Carson said.
“I wish he didn’t hold everything inside all the time,” she said.
“Aye,” he nodded.
Elizabeth took one last look at the door and continued on down the hall with Carson.
