A/N: Well, this chapter didn't go as I thought it would, but hopefully it works. And I still need to come up with a title.
The day of the memorial service for Rodney arrived. John dressed in his uniform on auto-pilot. Walking down the hall he met up with Elizabeth and Carson dressed in their best.
They continued together to the gateroom in silence. Carson spotted Laura in uniform and sidled up next to her.
John and Carson each managed to say a few words to the people gathered in the gateroom as they stood next to the casket. Elizabeth spoke after them. None of them were quite sure what they had said when they were finished.
Elizabeth walked over to Carson to speak to him briefly. “We’ll see you in a couple of weeks then,” she said accepting a brief hug from him.
They walked over to John who was speaking to Lorne. They said their goodbye’s as the ‘gate was engaged. Elizabeth and John stood to either side of the casket while a few other officers took hold of the rest of the casket and stepped through the gate.

They didn’t stay long at the SGC wanting to get to Canada as soon as possible. Their flight was spent mostly in silence. The SGC took care of Rodney’s remains sending him to Canada and would be there in the morning.
When they arrived they had a car waiting for them and drove directly to Jeannie’s. John rang the doorbell. He glanced over at Elizabeth for a moment before looking back as the door opened.
Jeannie looked at the two of them. It took a moment before recognition flashed on her face. A moment of confusion appeared before it was obvious realization hit her. She opened her mouth to speak, but couldn’t get anything out. Her hand came up to her mouth as tears sprang in her eyes.
John had to move fast to catch Jeannie as her knees began to buckle. She grabbed onto his arms managing to steady herself, but John hadn’t let go yet choosing to guide her to the couch.
“How?” She managed at last.
John sat in the chair next to the couch and Elizabeth sat on the couch next to Jeannie. “It was on a mission,” John said looking down and swallowing hard.
“Ronon and Teyla were killed on the same mission,” Elizabeth continued.
“Oh god,” Jeannie pressed her hand to her face. “I’m so sorry.”
“We tried to contact you sooner,” John said.
“I-we were out of town visiting Caleb’s parents,” she said.
“When is your husband getting home?” Elizabeth asked.
“He should be here with Maddie soon,” Jeannie wiped at the tears falling down her face. “Do you have…?” She bit her lip.
“His remains will be here in the morning,” Elizabeth answered.
“Will you be staying for awhile? You’re welcome to stay here until you have to go back.”
“We have hotel rooms already,” Elizabeth said. “We don’t want to intrude.”
It was a few minutes later when Caleb walked in with their daughter. John and Elizabeth stood back as Jeannie greeted them. A short time later they left the family grieve.

They had separated when they arrived at the hotel. Elizabeth entered her room and promptly changed into a t-shirt and pajama pants. She then decided to get some room service.
While she waited she got under the covers. She was startled by the knock and realized she had dozed off. She grabbed her robe and went to the door. She was surprised to see no room service, but John. He had changed into a pair of jeans and a dark blue t-shirt.
“I hope I didn’t disturb you,” he looked ready to bolt at any second.
“No,” she made a gesture encouraging him to come in. “Want something to eat?” She asked. “I’ve got room service sending something up; I could call them back and get something for you.”
“I’m not really hungry,” he said standing in the middle of the room, his hands stuck in his pockets.
“John, you should eat,” there was a knock at the door before John could reply.
“Actually there’s plenty here for the both of us,” Elizabeth sat on the edge of her bed.
“I should go,” John started toward the door.
“John,” Elizabeth stood up and went to grab his arm.
“I don’t know how to do this,” John yanked his arm away from her reach and slumped back against the door.
“What?” Elizabeth asked. “You don’t know how to do what?”
“Feel so much,” he said looking at her with miserable eyes.
“Oh John,” Elizabeth wanted to cry for him. “Come,” she reached her hand out to him letting him take it.
“What are we doing?” He looked at her confused and almost a little frightened.
Elizabeth pulled back the blankets of the bed and climbed in scooting over so could come over. “I think we could both use some sleep.”
He crawled in next to her still looking doubtful. As he lay on his back Elizabeth turned onto her side facing him and wrapped her arms around him. She could feel him tense for a long moment. In truth she wasn’t quite sure what she was doing, but somehow felt this was right. At last she felt him relax which allowed her to do the same. She hoped they could get a good night’s sleep at least.
