After John and Elizabeth returned to Atlantis life in the city continued the same as before. John however was not the same. He was quieter. In his first two weeks back he hadn’t left the city.

Elizabeth hadn’t discussed it with him, but she was wondering if he would ever consider a new team. He was contributing, so she chose not to push. He seemed even more focused than ever.

It was another week later when Elizabeth saw John on her way to get some lunch. She hadn’t seen him much beyond work related meetings.

“John, have you had lunch yet?” She asked.

John slowed his brisk pace down the hall. “Haven’t had time,” he said.

“I think you can make time right now,” she said. “I’m having lunch with Carson and Laura.” He didn’t answer right away. “Come on, don’t make me a third wheel,” she tried to pout at him.

“All right,” he sighed. “It’ll give me time to teach you how to do the puppy dog look correctly.”

She gave his shoulder a shove with her hand at his smirking face.

Elizabeth managed to get John to eat lunch with her every day for the next week. Some days it was with Carson and Laura and some days it was just the two of them.

John looked at his watch and saw he had a few minutes before meeting Elizabeth for lunch. He was in his quarters doing some clean up. Coming over to his desk he saw a box that Carson gave him after he had cleared out Rodney’s quarters. It had some things from Rodney’s room the doctor thought John might like.

Letting out a shaky breath John reached into the box and pulled out a remote control car. A spontaneous laugh erupted from inside. He remembered one time he and Rodney were racing their cars down an empty hall, well almost empty. Teyla and Elizabeth came walking through as the little cars came whizzing by. Ever graceful, Teyla managed to avoid tripping while holding an Athosian baby she was baby-sitting.

Elizabeth however was not so fortunate. Not that she was not just as graceful, but in her attempt to help Teyla from falling with a baby in her arms, she over balanced and slipped on the floor. It took all of John and Rodney’s will power to keep from laughing once they knew Elizabeth was all right. Only what John privately referred to as Elizabeth’s ‘eyebrow of doom’ stopped his laugh. He had to smack Rodney upside the head to get him to stop.

“John,” he was startled by the voice in his ear. He checked his watch and realized he was late for lunch. Setting the RC car back in the box he rushed out of the room.

John was getting dinner when he saw Carson sitting at a table alone. “Hey Carson,” he said after crossing the room. “Where’s Cadman?”

“She’s on a mission,” Carson said.

“Right,” John remembered. “Things seem to be going well for you two.”

“Och, not you too,” Carson tossed up his hands.

John swallowed his bite of food and looked at the other man. “What?”

“There’s no end to people’s interest in my love life,” Carson sighed.

“You know we live vicariously through you, Carson,” John patted his friend’s arm trying to look serious and failing.

“Good evening, gentlemen,” Elizabeth stood next to the table smiling at them.

John turned his head and smiled up at Elizabeth.

“Good evening Elizabeth,” Carson stood up. “As always, it was a pleasure chatting, John.”

Elizabeth watched the doctor leaving the mess. She turned and raised an eyebrow at John. “He seemed to be in a bit of a sour mood.”

John snickered. “Everyone’s rather interested in his love life.”

Elizabeth shook her head and sat down across from John. “Have any plans this evening?” She asked.

“Nope, any ideas?” He looked at Elizabeth.

“It’s movie night,” she said.

“You want to go to movie night?” He raised his eyebrows.

“It’s better than the alternative,” she said.

“What would be the alternative?” He asked.

“Being by myself and since I’ve caught up with work, there’s not much that would occupy me.” She grimaced.

“Yeah,” he agreed. “I ran out of things to do yesterday, which is saying something. I think Carson’s actually been hoping for an emergency to happen.”

“It’ll be two months tomorrow,” Elizabeth said.

John and Elizabeth ended up wandering the halls instead of going to the movie. They ended up in an area that hadn’t been fully explored.

They found themselves in a large room about the size of a ballroom. The walls were covered in mosaics and painting they had never seen in other parts of the city. Elizabeth noticed writing that reached from where the wall met the ceiling and all the way down to where it reached the floor.

“What’s it say?” John came up behind her stretching his head over her shoulder.

“They’re poems,” she said startled.

Upon further examination they realized there were sections of mosaics and paintings on the walls. Instead of canvas hanging on the wall as part of the art, the wall was part of the art. Each section had a name under the painting or mosaic.

“It’s an art gallery,” Elizabeth said in awe turning toward John. She was startled by how close they were.

John looked down at her and smiled. “You should explore more often. I’d join you.”

Elizabeth took a deep breath before stretching to meet John’s mouth with her own. He hesitated for a second before joining his lips with hers. His arms came up and turned her body the rest of the way facing him. They continued to kiss. Elizabeth relaxed into his arms.

“Dr. Weir, Colonel Sheppard; report to the infirmary,” a voice spoke through the PA system.

They separated breathing heavily. Their foreheads rested against each other. “We just had to complain about not having enough to do,” John sighed.

Elizabeth looked at him with sympathy. “We’ll continue this later,” she said. “This is Weir, what’s the situation?”

“Major Cornelius’ team came in hot, Ma’am...there were casualties,” Chuck answered.

As they were walking down the hall to the infirmary John looked at Elizabeth. “That’s Cadman’s team.”
