The Ski Trip
Daniel/Cam
Rating: G
A/N: This is set just before the ski trip on Christmas eve at Cameron's parents. A part of this was inspired by a funny Hallmark commercial I saw just before Christmas.
Excerpt 5
Cam turned over in bed to check the time. A smile spread over his face and he turned around to the other side of the bed. “Hey, Daniel,” he whispered nudging the other man.
“Wha-?” Daniel’s eyes snapped open and he sat bolt up.
“Relax,” Cam huffed.
Daniel sagged against the pillow and rubbed his eyes. “What time is it?”
“Four,” Cam answered.
“AM?” Daniel asked.
“Yeah, my Mom gets up at 5:30 Christmas morning to start cooking. Dad’ll get up at six and I’m usually up by 6:30,” he grabbed his robe and slipped on some warm socks.
“So, why are you getting up now and why have you woken me up?” Daniel grumbled.
“It’s a tradition,” Cam said. “I get up at four in the morning to check and see what presents are under the tree. My cousin Kelly would do it with me whenever she stayed over Christmas night. Besides, there are a couple of packages from Santa to put out for my parents.”
“How old are you again?” Daniel raised an eyebrow.
“Funny,” Cam stuck his tongue out at his lover.
“Very mature,” Daniel rolled his eyes.
“Are you coming?” Cam asked.
“What the hell, I’m awake. I’m not likely to get much sleep anyway.”
“Well, if you’d relax,” Cam said.
“How am I suppose to relax when we’re sleeping together two doors away from your parents,” he punctuated the word ‘parents’.
“My parents are crazy about you. My mother was ready to adopt you as soon as she met you,” Cam felt a twinge in his chest. He was sorry he said it that way, but Daniel being Daniel didn’t let on that he was bothered by the subject of adoption. He just wished someone had adopted Daniel when he was a kid.
They left their bedroom after Cam had grabbed the last few gifts and went into the family room where the tree sat. Cameron grinned as he put out the gifts.
Noticing a shiny new gift bag in front of the tree, Cam couldn’t resist. He walked over to it and kneeled down on the floor to peer inside.
A siren went off startling Cam so much he fell back on his ass. He realized it was coming from the gift bag. Then an authoritative voice spoke from the bag. “STEP AWAY FROM THE GIFT! STEP AWAY FROM THE GIFT!”
The lamp came on. Cam turned to see his parents standing in the doorway shaking their heads and grinning. A few feet over, Daniel was in a fit of laughter.
Taking another look between his parents and his lover it occurred to him they were in cahoots with one another.
