Excerpt 8
Cam walked into his parents’ house with Daniel following close behind. They walked through the kitchen towards the family room where they heard voices.
“Hey,” Cam opened up his arms and grinned at his cousin.
“Cameron!” A woman with short blond hair shouted before giving him a hug.
“Wait a second,” Cam pulled away from her enough to look at her. “Something’s different here,” his brow furrowed.
Cameron’s mom turned around facing them. She held in her arms a small baby. Kelly took the baby from Cam’s mom.
“When?” Cam asked. “I thought you weren’t due for another month.”
Kelly shook her head and smiled. “No, I had her two weeks ago. You lost track.”
“Mom, why didn’t you tell me?” Cam asked.
“I wanted to surprise you,” Kelly said.
“What’s her name?” Cam asked.
“Tracy Ann,” Jeff, Kelly’s husband said, shaking Cam’s hand.
“Oh hey,” Cam bopped his head lightly with the palm of his hand. “I’d like you to meet Dr. Daniel Jackson. Daniel, my cousin Kelly and her husband Jeff.”
“Doctor?” Kelly beamed.
“Of archeology and linguistics,” Daniel explained. “It’s good to meet you. Cam has told me a lot about you. Especially your escapades growing up, Kelly.”
Kelly laughed. “I don’t suppose he dragged you out of bed at four in the morning.”
Daniel shared a grin with Cam’s cousin. “Oh yes, it was something to see.”
Cam made a face at Daniel over Kelly’s shoulder.
“When are we going to open the presents?” Joey piped up.
“Joseph Allan Wilson,” Kelly looked down at her son.
“Well, how about we eat a quick breakfast before we open gifts,” Cam’s mom Wendy suggested.

A few hours later the family room was full of gift wrapping, toys and clothes among other things. Cam was resting slouched on the couch with a baby sleeping over his arm. Daniel sat next to Cam in a similar position. Joey sat in the middle of the floor looking at all of his new toys. Everyone else was scattered around the room in various spots.
Kelly got up from her seat and walked over next to Cam. “Would you like me to take Tracy?”
“I’m good,” Cam answered sounding a bit sleepy.
“Daniel, remind me to tell you about Cam’s sixteenth birthday,” Kelly said before sitting back down.
Daniel cocked his head towards Cam raising his eyes in interest. “Oh?”
“It’s nothing,” Cam waved his free hand at Daniel.
“I wouldn’t say having to give him extra driving lessons after he failed his driving test the first time by rear ending the driving instructor’s car nothing,” Cam’s dad offered with a grin. “Not to mention what it cost.”
“You rear ended your driving instructor’s car the day you tested for your driver’s license?” Daniel snickered.
Cam stuck his tongue out at Daniel.

Cam stood at the front door with Kelly still holding Tracy.
“You know, she’s suppose to come home with me,” Kelly chuckled taking Tracy from him.
Cam smiled. “It was good to see you, Kelly. I’m glad I go to see this little one,” he brushed a finger over Tracy’s little hand. Kelly and Jeff had been trying for a long time to have another child after Joey. Kelly was an only child like Cam and after her parents died in a car accident a few months after she graduated from college she didn’t want to have just one child. She wanted Joey to have a brother or sister.
“Are you happy?” She asked him.
Cam’s eyes wandered over to the family room where Daniel was helping Jeff gather all their presents. His smile grew and he looked back at Kelly. “Yeah.”
“Good,” she pressed a kiss to his cheek.
The others came over then. Kelly stepped over next to Daniel. “It was good to meet you, Daniel,” she pressed a kiss to his cheek and he gave her an embarrassed smile. “I hope to see you again soon.”
They said their goodbyes and soon there was silence in the house.
“Is anyone hungry?” Wendy asked.
The men shared grins. They figured they better have something. Wendy Mitchell thrived on feeding her guys. And now Daniel was added to that list.
