Summary: A tragedy in Cam's family

When they arrived at their destination they found a very tired and saddened Wendy Mitchell waiting for them.
“Mom,” Cam wrapped his arms around her as soon as he reached her.
When they pulled apart Wendy placed a hand on his cheek brushing her thumb over his skin. She turned and looked at Daniel giving him a hug as well. “Thank you for taking care of him,” she whispered to Daniel. He just hugged her back in answer.
They arrived at Cam’s parents’ house. Cam hugged his father. “Where are they?” Cam asked.
“In the guest bedroom,” his father said.
Cameron walked to the guest bedroom. Daniel followed. They entered the room and saw Joey asleep in the bed and a crib nearby with Tracy. A small cry came from the crib and Cam grimaced. He walked over to the crib and looked down at the thirteen month old.
Tracy’s crying increased and Cam scooped her up in his arms. “Hey little girl,” he whispered.
“Mommy,” Joey’s eyes snapped open. He sat up looking around frantically.
Daniel was standing next to Joey. The boy sniffed as tears began to fall down his cheeks. Daniel sat down on the edge of the bed and had the eleven year old crawling in his arms before he knew what to do. Daniel wasn’t sure what to do so he just let the boy cry into his chest.
Cam’s parents stood in the doorway holding each other.

They had put the children back where they had found them sleeping when they had finally fallen asleep from sheer exhaustion.
Cameron was going to the hospital in the morning to see Kelly. The prognosis was not good. The doctors doubted she would survive another day.
Cam’s Mom offered them food, but no one could eat. Finally they decided to go to bed.
“I told Sam I’d call her,” Daniel said grabbing his cell phone.
Neither had gotten changed yet as they both lay down on top of the covers of the bed.
“Put it on speaker,” Cam told him laying his head on the pillow Daniel’s head.
“Hey Sam,” Daniel said. “I’ve got you on speaker with Cam here.”
“Cam, how’re you holding up?” Their friend asked.
“I’m hangin in there, Sam,” Cam said. “How’re the bambinos?”
“Kicking up a storm,” Sam replied. They could hear the frustration in her voice. She was eight months pregnant and on bed rest for her final month.
“Daniel, Cameron.”
The two men shared a surprised glance.
“Vala, you’re not bothering Sam, are you?” Daniel asked the former thief.
“I’m hurt Daniel,” Vala replied.
Daniel rolled his eyes.
“She’s not bothering me, Daniel,” Daniel was chastised. “Jack on the other hand,” Sam laughed. “Let’s just say he went out to do something with Landry. We’re having a girls’ night in.”
Daniel and Cameron shared a laugh. Poor Jack, a pregnant wife and Vala.
“You take care of yourself, Sam,” Cameron said, his tone sounding a little more serious than he intended.
“You take care of each other,” Sam told them.
“We will,” Daniel answered for the both of them squeezing Cam’s hand.
When they finished the conversation Cam moved over closer to Daniel and rested his head on his lover’s shoulder.

Visiting his cousin the next day was crushing. Cameron stood alone in the room next to Kelly’s bed wearing a gown and mask to keep away any germs. She had been burned over eighty per cent of her body.
She wasn’t conscious and they didn’t know if she could even hear anyone. Thoughts began to spin in his mind. What was he going to do without her? Kelly was more like a sister to him than a cousin. He was more like an uncle to Joey and Tracy than a cousin once removed.
And what was going to happen to those precious children?
“Kelly,” he was whispering. “I don’t know if you can hear me but you don’t have to worry about Joey and Tracy. I’ll make sure they’re taken care of even if I have to do it myself. I love you so much.”
He couldn’t take standing there anymore and not being able to touch her or hold her. He rushed out of the room. Hands came up pulling him into arms holding him tight.
By the end of the day Kelly had lost her fight to live and died just after Cam and Daniel had left the hospital. Wendy, Cam’s Mom had still been at the hospital when it had happened.
When his mom came home they all hugged for a long time.
That night Cam wrapped himself around Daniel burying his face in his lover’s neck and shoulder. But the tears didn’t come this time. Cam could only feel numb as he fell asleep exhausted.
