Summary: First week of school and Daniel’s busy on another planet

A/N: Another fic in my series with Daniel and Cam raising Cam’s cousin’s kids
The alarm clock next to the bed went off and Cam raised his hand to smack it. His aim was off and the annoying alarm continued. He looked over for a brief moment to see Daniel on his stomach still dead to the world. The man could sleep through just about anything.
Cam removed Daniel’s arm from across stomach and sat up to turn off the alarm clock. He then leaned back over to Daniel placing his hand on his lover’s back giving him a good shake. “Come on Sunshine, time to wake up. You have to be at the SGC in a little over an hour.”
Daniel’s eyes came open, but he didn’t move. He stared at Cameron looking confused.
Cam smiled down at his lover and placed a kiss on his lips. That got a reaction. Daniel kissed back lifting his hand to the back of Cam’s head.
“Oh no,” Cam pulled back. “You need to get up. You wanted to go on this trip in the first place.”
Daniel groaned. “Remind me why I was so eager to get up at four in the morning yesterday.”
“Because you love your job,” Cam said.
“It’s not all I love.”
“I know,” Cam said. “Now, are you going to get up or do I have to haul you out of bed?”
“I’m up,” Daniel pushed himself off the bed and onto his feet. He entered their bathroom to take a shower and dress.
Cameron dragged himself out of bed and went downstairs. Entering the kitchen he turned on a light and put a couple pieces of bread in the toaster. He then pulled out a mug, plate and butter knife. When the toast popped up he got the butter and jam and spread it on.
Daniel came into the kitchen a short time later. “Having breakfast already?”
“You are,” Cameron handed Daniel the plate of toast and a mug of coffee.
“You didn’t have to do that,” Daniel said giving Cam a quick kiss before putting the plate and mug on the kitchen table.
Cameron just shrugged and sat across from Daniel propping his head up with his under his chin and elbow on the table. He watched Daniel eat his food and drink his coffee. Daniel was going to some deserted planet that showed signs of an old society buried for centuries. He would be gone for a few days.
SG-1 wasn’t doing much in the way of missions anymore. Sam was back working at the SGC after maternity leave but her hours were a little more regular these days. Cam’s and Daniel’s were too. Daniel would do an archeological stint a few days at a time. It was good for them. Joey didn’t like Daniel leaving for more than a day, but he was learning to accept it. It was something Daniel needed.
“Are you sure you don’t want me to stay?” Daniel asked startling Cam out of his woolgathering. “It is the first day of school and Joey’s first day at a new school.”
Joey was starting middle school. The boy was pretty nervous though he tried to hide it.
“No, I took today off,” Cam waved his hand. “If he needs me I’ll be around. Tracy’ll be with me for the day.”
Daniel stood up and took the plate and mug over to the sink. They walked out of the kitchen and up the stairs stopping at Joey’s room first. Daniel walked over next to Joey’s bed and placed a kiss o the boy’s head. Joey stirred and his eyes opened. “Daniel?” He looked up sleepily.
“Hey pal, sorry I woke you. I’m getting ready to go now,” Daniel sat on the edge of the bed.
“Okay,” they could hear in Joey’s voice he didn’t want Daniel to go, but Cameron had spoken to him telling him it was something Daniel needed to do. So Joey did his best to put on a brave face.
“You be good for Cam the next few days and I’ll be thinking about you today,” Daniel didn’t mention school not wanting to make the boy more nervous.
Joey sat up and hugged Daniel. “Love you,” Joey’s voice was muffled against Daniel’s chest.
“Love you too,” Daniel hugged him and got up tucking Joey back under the covers.
He returned to the doorway where Cam stood waiting for him. They walked to Tracy’s room. They found her standing in her crib holding the wooden bars to keep her up. She was seventeen months now. “Da da, Ca ca” she had been trying to say their names for a couple of months now. She was starting to walk some as well.
Daniel lifted her up into his arms placing a big kiss on her cheek. “Are you going to be good for Cam, sweetie?”
“Ca am,” she replied.
“Hey,” Cam walked over grinning. “She said my name.”
“Actually she said two syllables. Cam only has one syllable,” Daniel grinned.
Cameron took Tracy into his arms and started cooing at her. He finally put her down when Daniel needed to get going.
Walking down the stairs they came to the front door. Cameron wrapped his arms around Daniel and kissed him deeply. He then handed him his keys.
“Are you sure you want me to take your car?” Daniel asked holding the key to Cam’s beloved ‘stang.
“I’m going to need something more practical for the next few days and the car seat is already in your car.”
“Okay,” Daniel kissed Cam again before going out the door.
Cameron checked the clock on the wall. He had about an hour and a half before he needed to get the kids up. He decided to get a head start on the chores. If he went back to bed now, he would just wake up in an hour and a half more groggy than he was.
