Daniel leaned back against the wall. His legs were stretched out crossed at the ankles as he sat on the cold cement. His eyes turned up toward the ceiling as he heard and felt movement next to him.

“This is not my fault,” Cameron blurted out after a few minutes of silence.

Daniel’s lips pressed together in a thin line. He refused to look at Cam.

“So you’re not going to speak to me,” it was more of a statement than a question from Cam.

It was a diplomatic mission to P2X-956. They had left after getting eight year old Tracy off to school. They were supposed to be back before five so they could go to Tracy’s piano recital.

“They’re the homophobic bastards,” Cameron said a few minutes later.

“Couldn’t you have just kept your hands to yourself?” Daniel finally broke. He turned and glared at Cameron.

“The ambassador’s daughter was hitting on you,” Cameron shot back.

“And I had everything under control until you had to practically jump me,” Daniel said. “We shouldn’t be going off world together.”

Cameron closed his mouth ending what he was going to say before he started and slumped back against the wall.

Jack pulled up into the driveway of Daniel and Cameron’s house. “All right, let’s go,” he said to the three children. Two of them were his and Sam’s twins Emily and Chrissie and the third was Tracy. He agreed to pick them up from school while SG-1 was off world. He sighed, there were days he missed being on the team. Unfortunately his body decided otherwise. Having a pair of seven year olds was no easy thing though either.

He got out of his truck and helped the three girls out. Pulling out his extra key they gave them, he entered Daniel and Cameron’s house.

“Uncle Jack,” Tracy stood next to him. “When are Daniel and Cameron coming home?”

Jack took the little girl over to a chair so he could sit down. “Don’t worry honey, they’ll be back on time.”

“Daddy,” Emily said. “Can we have a snack?”

“All right you three,” he stood up. “Into the bathroom to wash your hands.”

The front door opened and Joe came in. “Hey Uncle Jack,” he said.

“Joe, how’s work?”

Joe had finished high school a semester early and started working at the local grocery store until the fall when he would be leaving for college. “Busy,” he said. “Are Daniel and Cam back yet?”

“Nope,” Jack said. “Mind helping find a snack for these three?” He pointed to the girls heading for the bathroom.

“Sure,” Joe walked into the kitchen.

Joe looked at the clock. It was half past four and the others still hadn’t arrived. He had just finished feeding Sam.

Jack came out to the living room. “Be right back,” he stepped out through the front door and came back a minute later with a bag slung over his shoulder. “Emily and Chrissie’s costumes,” he said. The twins were also participating in the recital.

“I think I’ll start something for dinner,” Joe said.

SB

Joe walked into the living room to find his sister sitting at the piano. Daniel had had it in storage until Tracy started to show an interest in the instrument.

“Hey, Trace,” he sat down on the bench next to her. “Want to practice one more time?”

“Are Daniel and Cam gonna be here soon?” The little girl asked.

Joe wrapped an arm around his sister pulling her to his side. “Sure they are. You don’t think they’d miss your recital do you?”

“Daddy,” one of the twins said as they entered the room. “I want Mommy to do my hair.”

Joe could see his Uncle Jack was at his wits end. The twins were asking for their mommy as much as Tracy was asking for Daniel and Cam. “Hey Chrissie,” he said to the little girl. “How about you let me give it a try.”

Chrissie beamed and rushed over to Joe handing over her comb and hair ribbons. With a minimum of fuss, Joe managed to get Chrissie’s hair the way she wanted it. “Who’s next?” He asked.

“Me,” Emily chirped.

When Joe was finished with Emily’s hair he looked over at his sister. “Want me to do your hair?” He asked her.

She shook her head looking down at the piano keys.

They had been silent for several minutes when Sam, Teal’c and Vala appeared outside of their cell door. “Well?” Cam asked.

“The ambassador finally agreed to let you go,” Sam replied. “He wants to speak to you first though.”

“Great,” Cam slumped against the bars.

“Gentlemen,” the ambassador appeared a moment later.

“Ambassador,” Daniel cut in. “We truly apologize for offending you in any way. We would just ask you to let us go so that we can return home on time to see our little girl.”

“You have a daughter,” the ambassador frowned.

“She is Col. Mitchell’s young cousin we are raising together since her parents passed away some years ago,” Daniel explained. “Look if you’re still willing to speak with our people Col. Mitchell and I will not return. Someone else can come and speak with you.”

“I do not believe that will be necessary,” the ambassador stated. “I think it would be best if your people did not return.”

“Ambassador,” Daniel tried.

“Daniel,” Cam whispered in a harsh voice.

Daniel took a breath before speaking again. “Very well.”

The door to the cell was opened and they were allowed exit.

Joe checked his watch and looked at Jack. “I guess we should get going.”

“Yeah,” Jack agreed and headed for Tracy’s bedroom where the girls were playing.

SB

Jack and Joe escorted the girls to the room they were supposed to wait in before going on stage.

“I don’t want to play if Daniel and Cam aren’t here,” Tracy was on the verge of tears as were the other two girls.

“Joe, stay with them for a minute,” Jack said. He went out into the hall and pulled out his cell phone. “General,” he said. “You wouldn’t happen to know where my wife is as well as Mitchell and Daniel,” he looked down the hall and shook his head. “General, never mind. Yep,” he smiled. “What the hell took you so long,” he hissed.

Sam kissed her husband. “What did you expect? The players may have changed a bit but we’re still trouble magnets,” she glared over her shoulder at the two men behind her.

“Leave it to you, Daniel,” Jack rolled his eyes.

“Oh no, no, no,” Daniel cut in. “This was not my fault.”

“Right, it was my fault,” Cam said.

“I believe it would be best to put this argument aside for the time being,” Teal’c stated.

“Someone needs to do something with Tracy’s hair,” Jack said as they went back into the room.

“Mommy!” The twins rushed towards Sam who kneeled down to hug them.

Daniel and Cam walked over to Tracy who hadn’t moved from her spot even when she had seen them. “Hey sweetie,” Cam kneeled down in front of her. “Aren’t you going to say hi to us?”

“Hi,” she said in a quiet voice looking down at her lap.

“Tracy honey, we are very sorry we’re late,” Daniel said.

“How’d you like to have Aunt Vala do your hair?” Cam asked.

“Okay,” Tracy said.

Cam moved Daniel over to the side. “I think we’re going to have to talk about going off world together,” he whispered.

“Yeah,” Daniel agreed.

“Where were you two?” Joe came up to them looking angrier at them than they could remember.

“Joe, Daniel and I are going to have a discussion later about our work schedule,” Cam said.

“Cam, Daniel. Look what Vala did to my hair,” Tracy was smiling now.

‘Thank you,’ Daniel Cam mouthed toward Vala.

“Are you ready for your performance, sweetie?” Cam asked.

“Uh huh,” Tracy nodded vigorously.

They saw other parents getting ready to leave the room as their children were milling around the room. A couple teachers were trying to get them all corralled.

“You better get going,” Daniel pointed across the room as Emily and Chrissie were walking away from their parents. “We’ll be out in the audience watching and then we’ll meet you back here afterwards. Okay?”

“Okay,” Tracy gave the two men and Joe a kiss on the cheek before she ran across the room to join her friends smiling.

“Did you bring the camcorder?” Cam looked at Daniel who then looked panicked.

“I’ve got the camcorder,” Jack waved it in the air.

“What would we do without you,” Sam wrapped her arm around Jack’s.

“Just call me ‘Mr. Mom’,” Jack said.

Thank you Shelly. This one gave me some troubles. I found writing Jack a bit hard.
