Early the next morning they were finishing packing up the SUV. They had already packed most of it the night before.

Cameron was heading to the front door of the house to put the last of their bags in the vehicle when his mom stopped him. “Cameron, I have something I’d like you to take.”

Cam could tell from the tone in his mom’s voice it wasn’t food. He looked over at her as she bit the bottom of her lip. She was holding a shoebox in her hand.

“What is it, Mom?” He walked over to her.

“Home movies,” she said. “Kelly gave them to me six months ago. She was in the process of putting them on DVD’s. They start from when Joey was year old. And there are some from just after Tracy was born and during Christmas when you brought Daniel here for the first time.”

Cameron stared at the box for several seconds swallowing past the lump in his throat. He hesitantly reached out finally taking the box in his hands. He took a deep breath and blinked several times.

Putting the box under his arm, he pulled his mom into a hug with his free arm.

“Joey hasn’t seen them since Kelly and Jeff died,” Wendy said.

The front screen door opened and Daniel stepped in.

“Hey,” Cam put on a smile for his lover. “We about ready to go?”

“Yeah,” Daniel frowned sensing the tension.

“I’ll get the kids and your father,” Wendy said turning and going up the stairs.

“Everything okay?” Daniel asked when they were alone.

Cameron leaned over and kissed Daniel. “I love you.”

Daniel’s frown deepened and he gave Cameron a hug. “I love you too.”

“Mom gave me Kelly’s home movies,” Cam finally said lifting the box to show Daniel.

“Oh,” Daniel nodded understanding.

Joey came bounding down the stairs with Sam. Wendy came down next holding Tracy and soon Frank joined them.

“All right, I guess it’s time we get this guy inside the truck,” Cam said grabbing Sam’s collar and putting his leash on after he had handed the shoebox of home movies over to Daniel.

They all went outside. Wendy took Tracy to the SUV and put her into her car seat while Cam and Daniel managed to get the dog in the back in his carrier. Frank opened the back door as Joey climbed in.

With one final goodbye Daniel and Cam climbed into the vehicle. “Drive safe,” Wendy said standing at the door of the driver’s side where Cam sat. She gave her son one last kiss before they drove off.

As expected it took longer to drive home to Colorado than the drive to Kansas had taken. There was at least one bathroom break for all including Sam. Lunch arrived before they knew it and they had to make another stop.

Tracy was getting tired and expressed it through tears which irritated Joey. “You wanted to drive,” Daniel had glared at his lover after they had finally gotten Tracy calmed down and had given Joey a firm talking to.

“We’ll be home soon,” Cameron told him.

A half an hour later they were finally pulling into the parking lot to their apartment building. The two men sagged into their seats.

“Let’s just get out the essentials,” Daniel suggested.

“Come on Joey, help me get Sam out,” Cam told the boy.

Daniel went around to the other side of the car and got Tracy out. They got the kids and dog into the apartment and Cameron headed back towards the door. “I’ll get whatever else we’ll need. You can call Jack and Sam.”

Daniel nodded sitting down on the couch with Joey next to him and Tracy in his lap. Sam sat down in front of them.

“Hey Jack,” Daniel said into his cell phone. “Yeah, we made it. That would be great thanks. We’ll see you in a few hours then,” he closed his phone and put it on the table by the arm rest. “Our friends are bringing dinner over later if that’s all right with you,” Daniel said to Joey.

“Sure,” Joey said. “I’m sorry about the way I acted during the ride here,” Joey said.

Daniel smiled and wrapped an arm around Joey’s shoulders. “It’s okay. It was a long hot ride.”

Daniel and Cam were collapsed out on the couch while Joey and Tracy were in their room taking a nap. There was a knock on their door and Daniel looked over at Cam hopeful.

“Maybe it’s unlocked,” Cam said hopeful.

“Or they have a key,” Daniel suggested and took a deep breath. “Who is it?”

“Jack, Sam and two cranky babies with food that’s getting cold,” Jack’s slightly muffled voice responded.

“Use your key, Jack,” Daniel yelled back.

A long moment later the door opened and Jack walked with a baby carrier in each hand. Sam followed holding sacks of food.

Daniel finally pushed himself up off the couch and took some of the food from Sam. “How are you feeling?” He asked her pressing a quick kiss to her cheek.

“Sure, now he gets up so he can kiss my wife,” Jack grumbled.

“Aw Jack, are you feeling left out?” Daniel asked.

“Yes Daniel,” Jack deadpanned.

Daniel was about to say something more when he saw Joey peek his head out of the bedroom.

“Hey Joey, we’d like you to meet some people,” Daniel said.

Joey stepped out of the bedroom followed closely by his dog.

“Joey, this is Jack and Sam,” Daniel introduced them. “Jack, Sam, this is Joey and this four legged creature is Sam.”

Sam, the person, coughed and looked at Daniel out of the corner of her eye. “Joey, I’m so glad to finally meet you,” she said.

“Yeah,” Jack agreed putting his hand out to the boy to shake. “We’ve heard a lot about you.”

“I’ll get Tracy,” Daniel said handing the food over to Cam.

Daniel came out a minute later with Tracy walking in front of him as he held her hands keeping her steady. Daniel made the introductions lifting the little girl into his arms.

“Sam?” Tracy looked between the dog and the woman confused.

“What do you think of calling us Aunt Sam and Uncle Jack,” Jack suggested.

“Are these your babies Sam-I mean Aunt Sam and Uncle Jack?” Joey asked shyly.

“Yep,” Jack smiled introducing the girls. “We have a couple more friends you’ll meet tomorrow,” he added.

“We better eat before this food gets any colder,” Cameron suggested.

It was a short visit that evening as Jack and Sam needed to get the twins home to bed. Daniel helped Cameron unroll their sleeping bags and spread them out on the living room floor. They decided they would all sleep in the living room that night since the kids would be sleeping in a new place.

“Ready for some sleep?” Cameron asked Joey when the boy came out of the bathroom in his pajamas.

“Yeah,” Joey said on a yawn.

“Did anyone remember to walk the dog?” Daniel asked suddenly as he held onto Tracy.

“Um,” Joey pursed his lips.

“I’ll do it,” Cameron stood up, “but once we move into the house, he’s your responsibility, Joey.”

“Yes sir,” Joey said.

Daniel sat down on the floor with Tracy who was already out like a light. Joey climbed into the sleeping bag and rested his head down on the pillow.

“I’ll be back in a few,” Cam said grabbing the leash and his shoes.

Cameron came back later warn out more than he already had been. Sam plopped down at the entrance of the apartment panting heavily. Cameron checked to make sure the dog had water before going over to the sleeping bags and plopping himself down next to Daniel.

“Hey,” Daniel whispered.

“Hey yourself,” Cam gave Daniel a quick kiss.

Daniel pulled Cameron close to him wrapping an arm around his lover before they both drifted off to sleep.
