Cameron set the receiver down on its cradle before bracing his hands on his thighs. He heard the bathroom door open then. He took a moment to gather his thoughts before looking over his shoulder.
Looking at his lover with the now graying hair and extra wrinkles under his eyes he realized Daniel’s face was white as a sheet. “Daniel?” Cameron stood up and walked over to Daniel.
“Hey,” Daniel smiled, but it didn’t reach his eyes. “Who was on the phone this early?”
“Daniel, come over here and sit down,” Cam pulled on Daniel’s hand. “Are you feeling all right?”
“I’m fine,” Daniel said. “Just had a weird dream.”
They sat down side by side on the edge of the bed. Cameron turned sideways to look at Daniel. “What was it about?”
Daniel sighed. “I dreamt I woke up in the middle of the night and Jack was standing at the foot of our bed,” he shook his head. “Yeah, I know, weird. So who was on the phone?”
“Daniel,” Cameron took one of Daniel’s hands in his. “That was Sam, Jack had a stroke a few hours ago.”
Daniel stood up pulling his hand out of Cam’s. “Is he all right?”
“No,” Cam stood up resting his hands on either side of Daniel’s face. “I’m sorry Daniel, but he didn’t survive.”
There was a long moment of stillness before Daniel pulled away and started talking very fast. “Do the girls know?” He asked.
“No, they’re still at Susan’s,” Cam answered.
“I need to tell Teal’c. God, Cassie. Joe of course,” Daniel began pacing listing off what needed to be done and who needed to be called. “Where’s Sam? Is she home? I need to be there for her.”
“Daniel,” Cam’s voice started off quiet, but he found he had to repeat himself to get through to Daniel. “Daniel,” he grabbed his lover’s shoulders forcing the other man to look at him. “Daniel, breathe.”
When Daniel did as he was told, Cam continued. “Get dressed and we’ll pick up Sam from the hospital. I’ll drop you off at her house and then go pick up Teal’c and then the girls. We can call Vala and I’m sure she’d come over as well. Then we can make the calls to Cassie and Joe. Okay?”
Daniel closed his eyes for a second taking another deep breath before finally nodding his head.
Cameron pulled Daniel into a hug feeling his lover’s body rigid in his arms. He gave an inward sigh wishing Daniel could let go, but knew it just wasn’t his way. Maybe in time when he wasn’t focused on taking care of everyone else he would let it out.
He released Daniel eventually and nudged him towards the bathroom. He opened the bedroom door after Daniel went into the bathroom and Homer looked up at him. Cam leaned down and picked up the cat holding him in his arms. “Hey you little fur ball,” he said affectionately.

When they picked up Sam from the hospital she looked wrecked. Her eyes were bloodshot. She had on a pair of sweats. Her hair was a mess and she was as pale as Daniel had looked this morning.
Cam stood back a couple feet as Daniel moved towards her and wrapped his arms around her without a word. The two old friends had clung to each other for a long time.
Finally Daniel pulled away still leaving one arm around Sam and looked at Cam. He then took his turn hugging Sam before telling her their plans.
Sam could only nod and follow them out of the hospital.
Cam followed them up to the front of the house making sure they got in before he left them to finish what he set out to do.
An hour later he was driving back to Sam and Jack’s house. Tracy sat quietly next to him, her head resting on his shoulder. The twins sat in the back of the car with Teal’c between them, his big arms wrapped around both young girls.
Finally he pulled into the driveway and shut off the car. Cam looked down at Tracy. “We’re here,” he patted her shoulder and felt her nod against his shoulder.
Finally they got out of the car and the twins rushed to the front door. Cameron followed with Tracy wrapped in his arm and Teal’c following him. As they entered the house they watched as the twins collapsed on the couch on either side of their mother who in turn wrapped her arms around them.
Tracy saw Daniel sitting down in a chair next to the couch and rushed over to him wrapping her arms around his neck.
Tracy eventually let go of the death grip on Daniel and sat back on the arm of the chair. Daniel stood up then as Teal’c stepped closer and the two friends hugged.
Sam kissed her daughters’ foreheads before getting up off the couch to hug Teal’c.
Cameron moved over to stand between Daniel and Tracy wrapping an arm around each of them. A few minutes later Vala arrived and more hugs were given.
“I called Joe,” Daniel told Cameron later in Sam’s kitchen. “He said he should be able to come here for a few days. At least they only live a few hours away.”
“How’d he sound?” Cam asked.
“He was upset, but he didn’t let it show too much. He was more worried about everyone else.”
“You two are like two peas in a pod,” Cam said wrapping his arms around Daniel kissing him.
“Sam called Cassie too,” Daniel was wrapping his arms around Cam now and resting his chin on Cam’s shoulder. “She should be here tomorrow.”
Cameron nodded holding onto Daniel a little longer.

Cameron entered their house late that night. Tracy followed close behind. Daniel and Teal’c were still with Sam and would be staying at her house over night.
Tracy passed by Cameron to go upstairs. Cameron set his keys down and looked down at Homer who was looking up at him. Cam sighed. “Come on,” he said to the cat and went to the kitchen to feed the cat. He then took care of Homer’s litter pan before heading upstairs.
He went upstairs coming to Tracy’s room finding the door was open. She was sitting at her desk looking at the screen of her computer. He could hear familiar voices coming from the computer and he felt a tightening in his chest.
Cam stepped in and moved behind Tracy. On the computer was a home movie of Jack’s last birthday. The party was at the present unwrapping stage. Every year of Jack’s birthday since Tracy was twelve she had given Jack something to do with the Simpsons. From t-shirts to memorabilia Jack’s Simpson’s collection was getting bigger much to Sam’s chagrin.
For his last birthday Tracy gave Jack a Homer Simpson bobble head. It was the first bobble head she had planned to give him.
Cam smiled at the video as Jack pulled out the bobble head. He leaned over and wrapped his arms around Tracy’s shoulder giving her a kiss on the top of her head.
Homer came in and jumped up on Tracy’s lap. Cam and Tracy shared a laugh.
