Several seconds of panicking led to frantic thinking, Daniel’s mind going all over the place. Finally the ceiling stopped its decent and he stared at Vala.

“Mitchell,” Vala said.

“Teal’c,” added before he went running towards the other two men’s position.

“Teal’c!” Daniel yelled.

“Daniel Jackson.”

Daniel allowed a moment of relief rush over him hearing his friend’s voice. Then Mitchell started talking telling Daniel what he was looking at. Panic set in as Daniel had no idea what the writing was that Mitchell was seeing.

Silence.

“Teal’c!” Daniel yelled again.

“Look, I didn't hear any screaming or squishing sounds, so—,” Vala said.

Daniel glared at the woman next to him.

The door opened and Daniel sucked in a breath seeing Teal’c and Mitchell exiting the room intact.

Later the room they had originally arrived in suddenly filled with gold and jewels, none of which interested Daniel but had Vala swimming in it. What did interest Daniel was big book.

“Well that figures. Room full of gold and jewels, and Dr. Daniel Jackson finds the one book. So, what's it about?”

Daniel felt an internally shudder as Mitchell’s side bumped up against him.

“Actually, it's a story. It's written like fiction,” Daniel pulled himself together managing to answer Mitchell’s question.

"Once upon a time…" Mitchell cajoled.

Daniel took a deep breath. “Once upon a time, there was a race of people that went on a great journey through space, across the universe. They were called the Altera. After much time…” he stopped briefly distracted by Vala much to his irritation. “…and I think this means thousands of years, they found a great belt of stars.”

“…and they lived happily ever after,” Daniel had barely heard Mitchell’s words when he became engrossed in the book before him. It wasn’t until Teal’c spoke that Daniel finally answered.

“It says that the Alterans named their new home "Avalon," and that they built many Astria Porta,” Daniel explained.

“Stargates?” Mitchell asked.

“Yes,” Daniel always knew Cameron was a smart man. He began to feel a flutter of excitement as he always did when he learned something new.

“The Ancients built the Stargates,” Vala interrupted.

“Well, it stands to reason they weren't always called ‘the Ancients’," Daniel answered.

Mitchell looked at Vala with disdain. “What do you care? You got your treasure.”

“Hmm. Let's see what's of more value—A few gold trinkets that apparently I won't be allowed to keep…” Vala replied tossing a necklace over her shoulder. “or…previously undiscovered secrets about the Gate Builders, the most powerful race to ever inhabit the galaxy.”

“You realize what this could mean,” Daniel added feeling his excitement return.

“Whoa. We've always presumed that the Ancients were the first evolution of humans in this galaxy. But, but this…this is the first evidence suggesting they came here long ago from somewhere far, far away,” Mitchell was getting just as excited as Daniel.

“Yes,” Daniel gave a vigorous nod of his head. At that moment he would have given just about anything to be alone with Cameron.

“Colonel Mitchell,” Marks interrupted them.

Mitchell, Vala, and Daniel turned to Marks. Teal'c approacheed and studied the alien device Marks just found.

“One of these things is not like the others,” Cameron grinned.
