“Come on, Marc,” Annabeth Sheppard reached down at the edge of her boyfriend’s shirt trying to pull it up.
“Anna, what if your mom or dad comes home?” Marc protested.
“They’re offworld,” Anna said.
“Yeah, I know. My dad’s with your mom and suppose to be back today,” Marc reminded her.
Anna crossed her arms in front of her staring at Marc. She was sitting on the couch with her legs lying across Marc’s lap. She had removed her shirt just before trying to get Marc’s off and only had her bra on.
“Marc, you’re leaving for Earth in less than a month.”
“I’ll be back for visits,” Marc assured her. “I have no intention of staying away permanently; this is my home.”
“We’ve been dating on and off for four years,” Anna said. “It’s time we took the next step.”
Marc snorted. “Sometimes I gotta remind myself I’m the guy in this relationship.”
“What’s that suppose to mean?” Anna demanded.
“It’s usually the guys pressuring their girlfriends into having sex,” he said.
“Then what are you waiting for?” Anna pulled Marc close for a kiss.
Marc’s hands wandered over Anna’s back searching for the fastening on her bra. His fingers brushed over old scar tissue causing Anna to pull back.
“Sorry,” Marc said.
Anna didn’t say anything, just took off her bra. Taking Marc’s hands in hers she placed them over her breasts before going back to kissing him.
Marc pushed Anna back against the couch and reached for the fastening of her pants. “Can you do this?” Marc suddenly asked.
“You know my paralysis starts just above my knees and goes down from there,” Anna said.
Marc nodded and continued to fondle her breasts and kiss her.
“What the hell is going on?”
Marc and Anna were startled and sat up. Anna’s mother stood before them looking shocked while Marc’s father stood ridged with his back turned away.
Anna fumbled searching for her shirt and pulled it on. Marc got up only looking at Anna briefly before walking over to his father.
“Evan,” Anna’s mom walked over to Marc’s father.
“I apologize for this, Elizabeth,” Evan Lorne said.
“No need to apologize,” Elizabeth assured him. “Don’t worry about my husband either.”
Evan nodded before leading his son out of the apartment.
“Mom, Marc and I have every right to do what we want,” Anna said before her mother could say anything.
“Anna, you’re seventeen years old. Marc is eighteen.”
“He’s just ten months older than me,” Anna said. “He’s leaving in less than a month. He’s the one mom,” Anna moved pulled herself up onto her wheelchair. “We’re not stupid,” she breathed hard getting comfortable. “Besides, you know perfectly well I’m on birth control.”
“Anna, I can’t help worrying about you and your relationship with Marc,” Anna’s mom said.
“Don’t blame Marc,” Anna said. “He was trying to convince me it was a bad idea.”
“I’m not blaming Marc,” Elizabeth said. “I just think you should give it more time.”
“How much time, Mom?”
Elizabeth sat down on the couch next to Anna. “I don’t know sweetheart but I suspect you’re trying to be ‘normal’. Why don’t you talk to Dr. Heightmeyer.”
“I’ll think about it,” Anna said before retreating to her bedroom. She crawled into bed and stared up at the ceiling. She wasn’t sure she wanted to talk to Dr. Heightmeyer. She’d been perfectly happy pretending she was a normal teen like every other teen on Atlantis.

The next weekend was graduation day for the kids returning to Earth for college or taking courses on Atlantis. Anna had another year before she would start college courses.
Marc was graduating and in a few weeks he would be going to college on Earth where he would then be in officer’s training corps. He wanted to be in the Air Force like his dad.
Marc had been born through surrogacy. His father’s partner Radek Zelenka’s sister carried him. Marc had been born a few months before Atlantis had been cut off from Earth over seventeen years earlier. Radek had adopted Marc after he and Marc’s dad- Evan-had married.
“John I promised Evan you weren’t going to kill him or his son,” Elizabeth said as she straightened her husband’s tie.
“I knew we shouldn’t have let them date,” John said.
“John, Marc is a good young man. Evan and Radek raised him right. Having said that, I suggested to Anna that she should talk with Kate Heightmeyer.”
“Are you guys ready?” Anna called outside her parents’ room.
“We’re coming,” Anna’s dad yelled back.

It was a small class of ten kids graduating. A reception was going to be held in the cafeteria for the kids and their parents after the ceremony.
“Lorne,” John shook his second in command’s hand. The ceremony would begin in a few minutes. “I hear Marc’s getting into a good school back on Earth.”
“Yes sir,” Evan smiled briefly before changing to something more serious. “Look sir, I just wanted to apologize for my son’s behavior last week.”
John waved his hand. “Forget about it. As my wife is wont to remind me we were all young once upon a time and stupid. You’ve got a good kid. You and Radek did a good job with him.”
Eventually John moved off to return to his wife’s side.
“Was that so hard?” Elizabeth asked.
“Yes,” John said but smiled. “You’re right as usual,” he gave Elizabeth a quick kiss on the temple. “Where’d Anna go?”
“I think she went off to find Marc,” Elizabeth smiled.
John’s shoulders sagged and he scowled.

Anna sneaked in behind the stage where the graduating students would be sitting to receive their diplomas. She looked around first seeing Susan Heightmeyer-Simpson. Susan had been Rodney Jr.’s first girlfriend but he wasn’t dating her now or anyone at the moment.
“Hey Anna,” Susan walked up to her. “Looking for Marc?”
“Yeah,” Anna smiled.
“I think he’s still talking with his parents,” Susan said.
“I’m here,” Marc’s voice came from behind Anna. He rested his hands on the back of her chair. “Hey, think it’s a good idea you’re here?”
Anna tipped her head back to look at Marc. “I don’t really care,” she said. “Wanna come over here?”
Marc stepped around Anna until he was facing her. He looked around briefly before leaning over and pressing a quick kiss to her lips.

The next two weeks went by far too quickly for Anna’s liking. Marc would be leaving in the morning for Earth. It was late in the afternoon as she sat with him on the couch in her living room. She sat with her legs up and leaning back against his chest.
“Why are you going to Earth?” She asked for the hundredth time. “You could take classes here.”
“It’s not going to be enough for what I want, Anna,” he said. “I have to go there if I want to be in the Air Force.”
“What do you need with the Air Force?” Anna asked.
“It’s something I need to do for myself,” he said.
Anna released a heavy breath of air but didn’t say anymore.

Marc was over at the Sheppard apartment early the next morning. Their parents gave the two teens a few minutes alone before they were to head to the gateroom where Evan and Radek would be going with their son to settle him into college.
Marc knelt down on the floor next to Anna cupping the back of her head with one hand and holding her hand with the other. He pulled her close to him pressing a kiss to her lips.
“I’ll be back for winter break,” he said to her.
Anna wiped a stray tear from her cheek trying to pull herself together before she followed him out the door.
A few minutes later she sat in the gateroom with her parents on either side of her as they watched Marc and his parents walk through the Stargate.
“Excuse me,” Anna said before making a quick exit out of the room.
Elizabeth looked at John with, worry in her eyes. John just wrapped an arm around his wife. “She’ll be okay,” he said.
