Did it seem to anyone that the last year or more of the X-Files seemed darker? Not in tone, but visually. Scifi channel is having a mini marathon of episodes from 2002 today. I caught a few minutes of a couple of episodes and the lighting is so dark as well as the clothes, I could see my reflection on the TV screen just below their faces.

I found it rather annoying. And I don't recall the early years looking like that. Of course I did notice when it was still airing originally that Scully's wardrobe had changed and she was wearing darker clothes in the last few years. I really didn't like that change. It also occurred to me later that Mulder and Scully both seemed to no longer wear their glasses. Or if they did it was very rare.

Mum actually stopped watching XF bc, as she said, "Waht's with the darkness? You can't see anything!"

I don't know how I stood it. I must not have been paying that much attention when I was watching but, I was determined to watch it to the bitter end.

LJ seems to be a little wonkie today. I didn't receive a notice of your reply. I just happened to go on my lj and see someone had commented.

It didn't really bother me, lol. I've noticed it with a few shows, like CSI seems to have a lot darker, too. I guess it keeps cost down, "adds effect" and is more flattering to the actors.

Tell me about it! I've been scrolling back through my Flist just to see if anyone replied to me, lol.

My Mom said that about CSI NY. She was always saying someone needs to get some extra lightbulbs on that show. :D Suffice to say, she doesn't watch that one anymore. Just CSI LV.

I suppose darkness fit the tone at that time. Scully's clothes certainly fit her dour mood.

I've only got notification from your reply to me when I commented to your post today.

Well sure it was dark when they went into a dank scary building where they had to use those big ass flashlights. ;) But what I was watching today there was a scene where Doggett was in a hall of the FBI offices. And in another room of the same building. These were scenes that had usually been lit more. Plus Scully used to wear lighter colored clothes.

My first episode was Tooms or was it Squeeze? Hhmm, I can never remember which is which. Anyway it was the second one with the character Tooms. For awhile I would see the previews of the show and think it was way too creepy for me. But then I watched it and found it wasn't as bad as I thought. It was just the right level of creepy.

Although there are a couple episodes I don't think I can ever watch again because they were too disturbing. Home was one and then there was s6 episode that was really creepy. The only part of Home I liked was the scene at the beginning between Mulder and Scully when she told him he would go into catatonic schizophrennea if he was separated from his cell phone for more than two minutes. :D
