Chapter 5

Rodney avoided Evan for the rest of the day after their fight. The next day Sheppard wanted Evan to come with him and his team off world.

They didn’t take a puddlejumper so they had a long walk ahead of them as they arrived on the planet.

After about twenty minutes of minimal conversation, Sheppard came up next to Lorne. He didn’t say anything at first making the Major a bit on edge.

“So, how are things between you and Rodney?”

Sheppard’s question had Evan tensing. He took a deep breath before responding. “With all due respect Sir, I’d rather not talk about it.”

“Look Lorne, McKay’s been avoiding us for a couple of days now. When I ran into him last night in the mess, he seemed ready to bolt.”

Evan sighed. “We had a fight yesterday.”

“About what?” Sheppard asked.

“I’d rather not talk about it, Sir,” when Sheppard looked ready to protest, Evan continued. “Sir, I’m in a relationship with your best friend.”

“Colonel, we should be at the settlement in a couple of minutes,” Teyla looked over her shoulder at them.

“I can see that,” Sheppard said.

Teyla’s eyes met Evan’s for a brief moment and he gave her an almost imperceptible nod of gratitude.

Ronon slowed down a pace or two and maneuvered between Sheppard and Lorne with ease. There were no more conversations about Rodney or his and Evan’s relationship during the mission.

Evan returned to Atlantis several hours later tired. For the most it was a mind numbingly boring mission. His job was to help provide security while Teyla spoke with one of their off world allies she was familiar with. At least that was the official reason he was asked to come on the mission.

Walking into his quarters he turned on the light. Reaching for the laces of his boot, he stopped short. Rodney was sitting on the edge of his bed. His head was down and cradled in his hands as his knees supported his arms.

“Rodney?” Evan took a step forward, but didn’t get too close. He didn’t want to startle his lover and he wasn’t all that sure what reception he’d get from the other man even if he was in Evan’s quarters.

Rodney’s head lifted up looking at Evan. He looked tired and miserable. Evan wasn’t sure, but he thought Rodney might have been crying at some point.

“I remembered the day Carson died.”

Without giving thought to action, Evan moved in a few short strides and sat next to Rodney pulling him close. Rodney seemed to collapse into Evan’s arms which wrapped around Rodney.

“I’ve been getting random flashes of memory all day. I can’t make much out of most of them,” Rodney tried to pull away a little, but Evan pulled him right back.

“It wasn’t the first clear memory I had today.”

“What was the first?” Evan prayed it was a pleasant memory.

“You and I were making love,” Rodney’s head came up from resting on Evan’s shoulder and he pressed a kiss to the other man’s lips. It didn’t stop there. Rodney’s tongue pushed its way in between his lover’s lips.

A hand dug under Evan’s shirt pressing it against the bare skin of his back. Another hand came up resting on his stomach before moving up to his chest. The kiss continued with teeth wrestling and teeth nipping lower lips.

“Rodney,” Evan pulled back after several seconds.

“Ev, I need you. I know this isn’t going to fix everything, but I need this now.”

Evan looked into the blue of his lover’s eyes. God he loved those eyes. They were so expressive, saying so much without a single word spoken.

Evan dove in with both feet. Like Rodney said, it wouldn’t fix everything, but he knew he needed to be with this man. He grabbed both of Rodney’s hands with his. For a moment he saw disappointment in Rodney’s eyes, but it didn’t last long when Evan pushed him to lie on his back and let his own body press against Rodney’s.

Reaching down, Evan grabbed the hem of Rodney’s t-shirt. It was the charcoal grey one he loved so much on Rodney. He pulled it off flinging it to the side of the bed. He touched the bandage over the healing wound on Rodney’s shoulder. It was getting better and he didn’t need to have the sling anymore.

“I’m okay,” Rodney said.

Evan sighed, but nodded his head before moving on and finishing with the rest of Rodney’s clothes.

“You want to take your clothes off,” Rodney suggested.

“Soon,” Evan said.

Evan took his time worshipping Rodney’s body. Rodney was so on edge now ready to come. “What are you doing to me?” He was panting.

“Getting to know you again,” Evan grinned.

“I thought that’s what I was supposed to be doing,” Rodney griped.

“You’ll have your chance,” Evan said before moving down the bed so he was between Rodney’s legs.

“Evan!”
